MAGNUS CHASE AND THE GODS OF ASGARD DEMIGOD H/CS: 💖 FREYA “GODDESS OF BEAUTY, LOVE, FERTILITY, GOLD, WAR, AND SORCERY” 🧙♀️
A/N: I don't think I messed too much of Freya's lore and information but by gods, I might have somewhere. Researching Freya and Frigga was so confusing and hard that I spent months going over because there were sources that kept either mixing them up or implied that Freya and Frigga were or are one and the same. That or there were a lot of similarities- Hopefully I did Lady Freya justice 😘
MAGNUS CHASE & THE GODS OF ASGARD DEMIGOD H/CS MASTERLIST: [TUMBLR] \\ [AO3]
Welcome to being one of the children of the illustrious Freya, goddess of Beauty, Love, Fertility, Gold, Sorcery, War, Death, and member of the Vanir and the twin sister of Frey! Being her child brings a lot of credentials to you that both bring a lot of respect but also scrutiny depending who/what your other parental half is; and your perception being her kid also depends on it too.
All children of Freya all have the similar qualities that belong to Freya’s realm; whether its beauty (i.e. Fashion like Blitz), are lovable in some shape and form, have a glow to them, or have a magical ability to them.
Freya is described as bright, unselfish, and a helpful woman, very loving towards her family and even towards others, which is inherited by her children, but make no mistake, she does have a darker side to her as she does have a taste for blood and fights fiercely in battle, her children also reflect this. Freya and her children are generally kind, bright, helpful, and generally all around good folks, but they are not to be taken as pushovers because when push comes to shove and they are crossed, they can be very intimidating and very dangerous. Their demeanor is one they chose after all. However, much like Freya with her obsession with jewelry, all children of Freya have a desire/obsession with something; particularly if it's physical, they can be easily swayed to do whatever they can to have it in their grasp.
A child of Freya is emotional, yes, yet they are also very practised how to emote them, and know their emotional maturity; so when they fly off the handle, that’s when you’ve either triggered them or broke the straw on the camel’s back.
Every child of Freya has some form of material possession; Freya with jewelry (particularly her necklace, Brísingamen), Blitzen with clothes and fashion. Whether it applies to something relating to wealth and appearances of, can be applied to anything relating to a material possession, a child of Freya’s strength and weakness is still the same.
I have to say it but there’s a good chance that a child of Freya is born on a Friday and Fridays are your luckiest days, because it is said to be named after her or Frigg. That said, if you were born on Good Friday, that’s double luck! However, Friday the 13th comes into full force and is a major day of black luck to you.
Cats, must I say more? Alright, being a child of Freya also means being a lover of cats and all those who are feline in nature as cats held great symbolic representation in Norse mythology and were associated with Freya; who were also believed to be her familiars and protectors and were often gifted to newly wedded brides. So being an absolute cat lover and cat magnet is in the cards for being a child of Freya! Unless your other half is repulsed or the enemy of cats, then well-
Alongside cats, there is a connection with boars as not only Freya’s chariot is pulled by two cats, it is accompanied by the boar Hildisvini, which she has ridden on before; who is also her servant Ottar into,to help him aid in reclaiming his inheritance from the Jotunn Hyndla.
While Freya is attributed being the goddess of sorcery, it’s more accurate to say she’s the goddess of seið, magic for seeing and influencing the future. You might have a higher chance of becoming a Vala - a seer- to see the future with runes, alongside cast spells if you have magical talent. Paired with a furry feline companion who the norse believed to possess the power of foresight and other supernatural senses.
Adding to the idea that if they are able to see the future, I don’t think a child of Freya can see that far into the future unless it is very determined; much like Ragnarok. Otherwise, they may get snippets or scenes of a movie if you will, where the content and context depends on their own knowledge. However, they can’t see that far either because the future and the choices people can make can always influence them to be changed, and not even Freya can see that far into a determined future.
In terms of Runes, there are two runes that you may be feel connected to out which is Ansuz ᚨ which means God and while it refers to Odin’s breath, it’s representation for communication and of spoken word represents how Freya uses persuasion and a gentler approach to achieve what she wants.
The other rune is Fehu ᚠ - Cattle- which is meant to represent the concept of abundance, wealth, security, and fertility; which represents Freya’s other realm of wealth and gold, and of course as a love and fertility goddess. It translates as Cattle because back then owning a cow was only the wealthy could do. It is also used as a household protection to allow prosperity throughout their lifetimes, which is much like those who gifted cats to newly wedded brides to protect and bring wealth to their home. Which makes it a pretty fitting rune for a child of Freya, don’tcha ya think?
Another one of the runes that you might feel close to is the Rune Kenaz- ᚲ - Torch; light; Knowledge. It’s associated with both Freya and Frey and it illuminates the darkness, represents the fire of life, passion, energy, and creativity. It’s considered one of the first aett (8) of Creation and represents the cycle of life- and as a child of Freya, the Kenaz can be a simple fire or represents your passion, creativity, inner fire, and more.
Though, you may not need to have Rune Magic as you might be born with Alf Seidr or Elf magic- a form of peaceful magic. I think as a child of Freya, if you were to have Alf Seidr, they would lean more towards Pacemiakinesis; where they can create and manipulate peace, disarmament, growth manipulation, then healing. More so because Freya manages Folkvanger ‘Field of People’ where it has a more peaceful and passive atmosphere than say Valhalla, and because Freya is one of the Vanir.
Not sure if you can cry tears of pure gold like Freya but I wouldn’t put past it being a thing with at least one of the children of Freya. It probably is golden tears but I like the idea of a child of Freya being also able to cry tears of other precious jewels and metals, like pearls for example. A nice reference to Freya, and thus any of her children, being descendents of Njord, god of the Sea, Wealth, Wind, and Fishing. But there is also a chance of a child of Freya being able to cry tears of any other jewel or metal, based on their personality or whatever is symbolic to them. Maybe this also can be found out if the child of Freya has ‘jeweled’, ‘metallic’, or ‘sparkling’ eyes that you can see.
If you’re a daughter of Freya, there’s a chance you could become a Valkyrie but that’s just me thinking how you can have your hands on a feathered cloak like Freya’s feathered cloak made from Falcon feathers, which the Valkyries do have to change into Swans and allow flight themselves.
If you get your hands on a magical weapon or a weapon that can take on another passive shape when it's not active, I’d imagine you would most likely have it in the shape of a necklace, reflecting Freya’s Brísingamen.
There’s also occurrences when you know you’re a child of Freya and have gotten to know her, that you will act as her representative as if she was there. Whether it is to bargain and fetch new jewelry for her from the Dwarves, as her judge and witness during competitions and arguments, and so forth. Which can be sometimes challenging with how sometimes fickle Freya can be in design and choice, though she does have confidence in your talents. Mostly.
