When I was reading the Ship of Dead excerpt I noticed something... how come in the description on Percy's sister it says "Five fingers. Five toes."? Isn't it 10... or am I stupid.

Ahhh I loved your review for the ship of the dead and I'm an absolute mess because of fierrochase and if it's okay I'd really, really love to hear your opinion on why Alex said she needed space when magnus kind of sort of confessed his undying love? Especially when she was the one who kissed him first? It's in character but ah idk I just wanted to hear your views on this

And yeah, I agree that it was in character, but at the same time isn’t the typical ‘we’re on the same page on everything and everything’s going to be smooth sailing for us insta-love’ that a lot of books unfortunately end with.

I think it’s realistic because the timeline of all this is literally within one day. I absolutely think there’s no dispute over whether or not Alex likes Magnus as more than a friend– she certainly does, but nothing is so simple.

The timing is a factor, and I also think the magnitude is a factor. Alex just kissed Magnus. That was it. Hell, friends do that platonically sometimes. But then Magnus announced in front of everybody in the pivotal moment of the final battle, that the kiss was one of the best things that had ever happened to him. EVER. 

While that’s super sweet (and I may or may not have teared up), that’s gotta be a little scary to hear from your almost-significant-other. Alex probably didn’t realize just how much of an effect she had on him, and there’s a lot of pressure/expectations that go along with that. It’s like the einjerji equivalency of someone talking about how much they want kids on the first date. Like…whoa. Yikes.

This is eternity we’re talking about, and that makes long-term relationships particularly difficult to maintain. I think Riordan made the right call in making their relationship sort of ‘up in the air’ while still making it clear that their feelings are shared.

In summation, I think Magnus and Alex clearly like each other a lot, but the implications of being in a relationship while also in the afterlife is an extremely complicated matter, and they’ll definitely need to take lots of time to figure out what their ground rules are and stuff like that.
