I saw something flying ...And then it hit me.

For my final project, I decided to use the story map layout again, since it was something I was comfortable with using and I like how the location element added to the presentation of the idea I’m presenting. 

I chose to use this project to highlight one of the fastest growing sports in the world that I have become fascinated with since moving to Arizona. 

Disc Golf combines golf and frisbee throwing to make it’s own sport, that has it’s own professional league, etc. In my project I added elements of video, pictures, and articles, that define the sport, and show how the professional system got started and how it works.

The King’s Journey

My Story Map is about Lebron James’ professional basketball career. Not only did I include the places where the events took places, but added some cool pictures and details to supplement the presentation. I obviously couldn’t have added all the details or we’d be here for 18 years, but I added what I thought were the ten or so major events in his tenure. As far as the map goes I had some creative issues with how it looked, but I feel like I got the overall desired output in the end. Jackson McHaney

Making Headlines!

For my headliner, I decided to use my soup story from before to keep it simple. Since I had already linked it to Soundcloud, etc. I thought it would make it more convenient. Though, this is a neat tool to use for audio so hopefully in the future I can start using it for some of my radio material. The different ways you can personalize the visualization of the audio to the story is very necessary especially if you are to use it on social media. Jackson McHaney

Timeless Music

For my timeline project, I chose to do Kanye West’s Discography. Discography for those that may not know, is just the collection of all the albums or bodies of work that a musical artist has released in their career. I put all the albums in order by release date, and paired them with either the picture of the album cover, or a music video from a song from the album. I also added just interesting facts about each, such as sales, awards won, style of music and maybe some other interesting facts that support the overall idea.

Soup is for the Soul

My favorite soup is chicken noodle soup. The reason being that I don’t eat much soup in general, and this is the “old but gold” standard of soup. When you get sick what kind of soup do you usually have? Chicken noodle soup. Plain and simple, with only three ingredients, this is the soup that won’t wow you every time, but it does its job when asked. My Medium story is written and narrated about my favorite soup, with this picture I added some edits to, to really drive home the simplicity of the dish. Jackson McHaney

Cutting Edge Colors

This picture of the rotating barbershop signal is one of my favorites so far from this class. I think the barbershop signal itself is a cool everyday image, but when you can change the colors, etc. I think is when you can get really creative with an already eye pleasing visual. I used some other filters as well in a gif that maximized colors and lighting in this image. I used this technique on some other sequences as well, but the base image for this one made the whole thing the most aesthetically pleasing. Jackson McHaney

Blending Surfaces

For this assignment we had to blend to pictures together to create a more satisfying image. I used two images I had previously taken for a different assignment, of flat surfaces, that have similar color schemes, but their designs would complement each other well in a finished product. In the future I’ll definitely use more colorful pictures or ones with objects in them. Though I do feel like this opacity gave the end result a good blended example for the basics of what this process can create. Jackson McHaney

For the last several years, our University Archives Women’s History Month exhibit entitled “The Women Who Shaped Texas Tech” has graced our hallways. It celebrates several women whose influence on Texas Tech University is still felt today.

Here we have Jeannine McHaney, long-time Women’s Athletics director at TTU, giving overwhelmed Lady Raider legend Sheryl Swoopes a congratulatory hug. Swoopes would continue to have a successful basketball career after leaving Texas Tech. In September of 2016, she was inducted into the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame.
