Minimalist MCM Home Decor, 1963

Verrrry intriguing home, especially if you like brick and mid-century modern wallpaper. Built in 1981 in Lake Park, IA, it has 5bds, 4ba and is a nice piece of property right on Silver Lake, but it's pricey at $927,900. Look at this unusual house. 1981 is on the cusp of mid-century and the wallpaper, etc., was still available when the decor was chosen.

Impressive long hall entrance. Nice big closet for coats and winter clothing. I would just put in a fabulous new light fixture, b/c that one is dated.

As soon as you enter, you can see the vast living room thru an opening in the brick wall.

It's 2 steps down to the huge sunken living room w/brick walls, a fireplace w/a mural above, and what looks like a bar on the left. It also has a coffered ceiling. I might change the mural.

Then, there's a long pony wall, and you can see into the dining room.

So, it's basically an open concept, with the wall for separation.

I like the arched doorway and shutter doors to the kitchen. Beautiful chandelier, too.

Love the kitchen. This may actually be a family room, b/c the dining room is out by the living room. It's a got a fireplace with log storage.

The kitchen is large, and definitely an eat-in kitchen.

In the kitchen dining area, there's a built-in desk, huge windows and door to a patio. I'm liking this house.

The primary bedroom. It's pretty big and has doors to what must closets and an en-suite. Looks like more closets out in the hall.

I'm going to call this a den or flex space. TV room?

Laundry room.

The hall outside the kitchen and primary bedroom has stairs to the lower level, and what looks like a little balcony.

Huge rec room with a bar and fridge.

Shower room down here. Love the green toilet.

Huge patio facing the lake.

Very large yard on the lower level, like they dug it out and put up walls. Very nice, look at the planters.

But, look at the dramatic scenery- it's open to the banks of Silver Lake and even has lanterns to light it up at night.

There's a smaller patio on the lower level outside of the rec room, and off to the side, a room that leads directly into the basement.

Lots of storage.

All of this looks new.

This is so pretty. .74 acre lot. I really like this house.

finally got my old style but modern record player that also plays radio, cassettes and cds lol. Excited to go to the record store downtown and get a bunch of records 🥰 looks good on my MCM sideboard, so quite pleased… just need a couple nice house plants on either side of er and it’ll be perfect!!

also got a big bookcase for the living room and put my books in it (wish I had all of my books :( but when I moved here from Ontario, I obv couldn’t bring a bunch of books with me on a plane haha and I haven’t book too many physical copies of books since I’ve been here, I read ebooks on my tablet mostly, but there are a few titles I’ll get a physical copy of if I love it) with a few other decorative things like my mini globe, a couple picture frames, my old ass radio and then I’m going out thrifting for some decor elements for it - some more books to fill it out more, ones that are pretty and vintage looking obvs lol, I’m going for an academia kind of vibe, so hopefully I can find some cool knick knacks and then going to the horticulturalist for some more plants for it. I also ordered a couple mini “classical style” bust bookends lol.

oh and I finally ordered the wall art I wanted for the living room, abstract MCM vibes lol & then all I need now is a good rug, but I’m finding it hard to find one that has the MCM vibes AND orange in it, not a fully orange rug

and then on to the bedroom haha, gotta put my finishing decor touches on it, going for an 17th/18th century look- getting a new comforter and pillows, a bunch of new antique looking frames for my frame wall, an baroque gold ornate mirror my vanity which will go great with the emerald green French provincial style armchair I have- also going for black/emerald and gold accents. Kind of like a dark Victorian vibe haha

MCM Home Decor, 1966

This is an exceptionally gorgeous 1958 Mid-Century Modern home in Palm Springs, California that was featured as a showcase tour house for Modernism Week. 

Check out the interior design that featured the color yellow. 

Isn’t this stunning? The lemon yellow really makes the living room pop. Love the mirrored tile backsplash on the bar, too. 

The wall hanging and sofas help to brighten the dark stones of the fireplace.

Bright artwork adds a pop of color to neutral vintage MCM pieces.

Sunny yellow counters bright up the galley kitchen. 

I think that gray is a good contrasting color for yellow and that’s what makes homes redone in nothing but gray & white look so stark.

This is a nice touch, too- a simple yellow border on a gray & white cabinet.

The main bd. is just white, but it’s the furniture and accent colors that give it life.

The main en-suite is white, but they added a dark floating sink vanity and  monochromatic framed art for color.

The secondary bedrooms also have themed colors.

Nice home office is vibrant in mutiple colors.

Here’s a different Mid Century Modern home- it’s only owner was the architect that designed it. It’s for sale in Salina, Kansas for $325K. 

Right off the bat, it’s different. 

The conversation pit in this living room is a stepdown living room area with a semi-circular bench sofa. 

There’s the rounded column you see on the exterior- it’s a fireplace. 

There’s a lot of unusual lighting in this home- look at the flat round skylight with the recessed lights around it. 

He put in a lot of round features, didn’t he? There’s another living room area up on this level, also. 

Look at that lamp- I thought it was a ceiling light, but it’s wrapped around a pole.

The stairs kind of remind me of castle stairs going around a turret.

Look at the counter outside the kitchen- that’s unusual. 

The kitchen is kind of elliptical. Look at the oven. that is cool.- it has double doors.

Where’s the fridge? I thought that stainless steel appliance under the counter was a dishwasher, but maybe it’s a fridge.

Lots of built-in closets. And, here’s a vanity table. 

There are a lot of hallways. 

Large billiard room even has a light above the table.

Rounded bath with a double sink. Like how the sink vanity and table are floating.

I’m not sure what this room could be. Maybe a rec room.

Even the basement is round.

It even has round patios. 

I wish they showed that round room w/the windows. It’s 2 bd. home, so that must be the main bd. 

Wow, it’s certainly in an isolated area.
