“Fine fine, I’ll read an entry,” Dorothy giggled, shaking her head as she opened her journal, “The crops are doing well today, or well, that’s according to Auntie. Even though I’ve lived here for years now, I still don’t know the difference between a healthy crop and a sick one. I didn’t do much today other than get the eggs from the chickens and make them lunch--I’m really getting quite bored of the same old ham and cheese sandwiches, but they refuse to go into town for groceries until our food runs out. Some days, I wonder what it’d be like if I took uncle’s truck and drove away from here and never came back. Then I remember that’s their only truck and I might be killing them if I take it. So I stay too.”

“I feel like I don’t have answers to many of these questions,” John laughed, “Oh, I don’t know. I have my fathers old top hat that he gave to me when I was a child? I don’t wear it anymore, but I wouldn’t consider it a comfort object. More like an object that is sitting on my desk judging me for everything I do.”

“My handwriting is neat,” john answered easily, shrugging, “I wouldn’t say it’s anywhere near fancy, but, father always made sure my penmanship was on point.”

“Frankly, I am never on time for anything,” John sighed, shaking his head, “I’m either extremely early or ludicrously late...Never anywhere in between. It’s exhausting, really, never being on time.”

“I prefer daytime,” john smiled softly, “I enjoy the sun, and it is when most people are awake and living their lives. Besides, nighttime is dark; I’d prefer to always stay out of the dark, thank you very much.”

He was afraid of horses up until he was about 20 years old–it wasn’t until his ongoing feud with Maximus did he finally realize no, horses aren’t going to stomp him to death, it’s fine.

If you were to ask him this, he’d tell you there was not a single talent he wishes he had. He thinks he’s pretty perfect, after all. But if he were to be honest–which he never is, mind you–he’d probably say something mundane like cooking, or even baking.
