Jadis groaned as she started to wake up. Her head still aching from the impact of the bomb. Very faintly she heard people talking before a "Shit." She opens her eyes to find shes laying down on a makeshift cot. "What the fuck?" She rings out in pain.
"Uh oh." Ava says to herself. The Thunderbolts had not been awake for that long before Jadis. The team all sat with their hands bound while Bucky layed Jadis on a cot in the corner of a room. He was just waiting for the feeling of her magic wrapping around him before he could explain himself. As stated before, he knew her and he knew she had a temper. So when he looked over to see her sitting up groaning in pain he started to prepare himself. He was in for it.
Jadis looks to see everyone tied up. The super soilders had rope and metal holding them while Ava had enhancement suppression cuffs similar to what Jadis was hit with. And him... Bucky. "You." Jadis said as she remembered what happened. "Kid... wait let me explain." But before he got the chance to he was lifted off the ground and slammed against the wall then pulled towards the center of the room above everyone else. Jadises green gripped around him suspending him in mid air almost kicking John in the head. The Thunderbolts just sat there in awe witnessing this. While Jadis smiled to herself at the feeling of her power back in full. "Jadis... please!" Bucky rang out in pain. The Green VVitch remembering he is not the enemy releases him. On his feet once more he stumbles back and catches his breath.
"Jadis tell him about Bob. Tell him we're not lying." Yelena said. Bob... she remembered. "I appreciate you not killing me." Bucky huffed. Looking up at her he realizes just how long its been. "You're all grown up now. Good to see you all things considered." Jadis walks closer to him. "Whatever they said about Bob is the truth. Valentina has crossed a line if she hasn't already." Buckys eyebrows knitted together. He knew Jadis was truthful. Sometimes too much. But he still was unsure of exactly what was what. "Then let me show you!" She yelled in frustration. Then the realization hit his face. "I forgot you could read minds." Jadis nodded. "I've picked up a few new tricks too. Now what's going on? Why are you here?"
John speaks up. "We... are evidence. Evidence in Valentinas impeachment trial. *scoffs* Congressman Barnes..." Bucky used to hate this man so much something Jadis senses. "Alright Walker. What's that supposed to mean?" Bucky and Jadis felt the same way. John Walker is an arrogant ass. But there are moments. "It means you know me, Bucky. So cut the crap and listen to what we're trying to tell you what she is trying to tell you. If you won't believe us then believe her." Bucky looked at Jadis still unsure but slightly more convinced. "Yeah I know you John. I know its been hard since Olivia left you and took your kid but still." Jadis looks down in realization. She knew something was wrong when it came to his family but she had no idea. Before she could say anything else his phone rang. Stepping back he leaned on the window. She looked back at John and gave him a sympathetic look before "Bob?" Bucky pulled her attention. The gist? He got a call from Valentinas assistant. And Bucky enlisted the group to help him. "For the glory." As Alexi so eloquently put it.
It wasn't long after that the team was back in New York. It had been a few years since Jadis was here. After Thanos again... being in New York without the Avengers was just not the same. So she decided to roam the world like she had done after she escaped Agatha. New York was her first REAL home. "What about you?" Ava got her attention. "What?" Jadis, Yelena, Ava, and John were all sitting in the back of the truck with Bucky and Alexi up front. "Is magic all you know? Or do you have a weapon of choice?" Oh. Jadis presented her hand and there appeared a blade. "Normally if not magic then its this. Though I do know how to use a gun if needed." That surprised them. "I... learned from Natasha actually." Jadis looked up to Yelena who's grin fell at the mention of her sister. "You did?" She was still so heartbroken Jadis could feel it. "Mhm. You know. She used to talk about you all of the time. She... I used to catch her looking at those pictures from the photo booth. I asked her once "Where is the other half?" And she would say. Its safe. My baby sister... Yelena." The latter blinked away her tears and said, "Everyone got so much time with her but me." Jadis could tell she struck a nerve. Yelena cleared her throat before speaking. "So have you always known? About..." She wiggled her fingers pointing to her magic. "Uh... no. No. I learned about my power when I was homeless." Adding to the heaviness of the moment John looked to Jadis. "Did you know? About... my family?" She looked to him. She felt her heart breaking. "No." She shook her head. "With my power I can read surface level thoughts. Like when we were in the vault? I could sense you were thinking about your son. But I can only get more details through a physical connection." John nodded looking down. "You're not a bad guy John." Jadis said making him look up at her scoffing. "Tell that to the United States Government." He shook his head in shame. "I think they set you up for failure. I think that you were trying to be Steve. Which... I understand. This was pretty much thrusted onto you out of nowhere and that wasn't fair. They had no right to do that and then completely abandon you. The second things got ugly." John could've cried but he chose not to. "Thanks." He said. And it wasn't long until the team reached the tower. Crashing through the glass and kicking ass. Until they were invited upstairs. Stepping onto the elevator Jadis suddenly was surrounded by a puff of green smoke. Everyone looked back at her to see her in her formal outfit.
Topped off with her signature crown of and platform boots of course.
Being in the building brought back so many memories. There was a point in time where Jadis considered this her home. The Avengers tower and compound meant so much to her. To have it now be a staple for that disgusting hag.
Stepping off the elevator they're greeted by the same hag. "The place wasn't cheap but. Its got good optics." Jadis walked behind everyone looking at how everything had changed. "And look who it is. Welcome back home Jadis." Valentina addressed the young VVitch. The latter turning around coming face to face with the woman for the first time. "Gotta say the green works for you. Yeah a jolly feeling it gives off." Jadis walks past everyone and stares at her with so much hate. "You're the last person I'll take style advice from Contessa." The name made her jaw clench. "Its... Valentina." No one has ever called her Contessa except her late father. "Contessa Valentina Allegra de la Fontaine... I'll call you whatever I like." Jadises first instinct with people she didn't like was hostility. It was especially warranted in this case. Jadis then sensed it. The power. Bob's power. "BOB?!" She yelled as she moved towards the stairs. "You're just gonna ruin the big entrance? Sentry!" Valentina called out. Jadis was at the bottom step before she saw him. And the way he looked made her step back from the shock.
Heavy thuds down the stair reveals Bob aka Sentry. A giant man dressed in gold. He did not look like Bob. "Bob?" Jadis questioned as he got to the bottom step. "No. No Bob. Meet project Sentry." Said Valentina. Jadis couldn't believe it. "Hey guys." Bob said before Ava questioned him. "Did you dye your hair?" It looked odd to say the least. "That was my idea. People love a classic hero." Valentina could do anything and it would piss Jadis off. "I prefer your brown curls." Jadises words made Bob's head fall down with a subtle blush form on his cheeks. "I think I know what im doing. I dont think you should be giving advice on hair little miss." Jadis just laughed at Valentina. "You really thought you did something with that. At least my color is natural. And at least I dont look like a skunk... Bob shes just using you." He had to admit Valentina was fishy. But he made his decision. "I'm Sentry now." He firmly said almost making her flinch.
Valentina went on a tangent about herself and Bob. How Bob was more powerful than all the Avengers combined making a point to Jadis specifically. Telling the team of her plan to basically take over the country with how she decides how to protect Americans. "I will be unimpeachable." She said with so much confidence. Jadis chuckled. "Thanks for the villian monolog. We're done here." Valentina had an annoyed smirk. "For once I agree. Sentry. Your first mission. Take out these criminals." Bob looked to everyone with sympathy. Especially Jadis. "Why dont you guys just turn yourselves in." He didnt want to hurt anyone. He just wanted to prove himself. "Bob she's using you. Can't you see that?" Jadis asked. "It's... Sentry." He said in annoyance. "Bob is useless. He's gone." Jadis shook her head stepping closer to him. "Who was it that was willing to die just so a group of people he's never met could get to safety? You had no idea of your power you were just willing to die for us. Who made me smile for the first time in months? That was Bob. Not Sentry. Sentry is nothing without Bob. Not the other way around." Jadis tried to reach for him. But Bob took a step away from her. Making Jadis shutter. "Bob only did that because he wanted to die. You're right Jadis. I didnt know. But thats why I did it. Because I thought it would put me out of my misery. Bob is weak. I am what is left of him." His eyes glowed gold. Jadis let a tear slip.
"Come on Bob you know me." Yelena chimed in. Bob looked unrecognizable compared to the man they met in the vault. He didnt even stutter once. "Do I?" Jadis sensed something from Val. A lie. "They think you're weak. They dont believe in you Bob." She said. Jadis searched her thoughts and found what she was looking for. "She has a kill switch Bob..." He turned to looked at Jadis. A part of him admiring the green veins on her face. The other pondering what she just said. "That's ridiculous. I told you she is a liar Robert. The VVicked VVitch. You may think shes a hero but shes not. Shes just like Wanda Maxi-"
"Silentium." Jadis uttered her spell in latin pinching her fingers together in order to take away her ability to speak for the moment. "Bob she has it in her pocket. The moment you stop doing what she wants she will kill you." Bob wanted to believe her. But his ego got in the way of seeing the truth. Jadis grabbed Valentina. Forcefully invading her mind which is painful. Jadis sees everything tied to Bob before Bob pushes her away causing her to stumble into Bucky. Breaking her concentration on the spell. "You lied." She said. "You said he was stronger than the Avengers. Every Avenger combined." Bob looked back and forth from Jadis to Val. "I thought he was stronger... you tried to give him cosmic power. To make him Wanda's equal but... you couldn't. Wanda's still stronger than anything." She said that last part to herself. Smiling. Something about that giving her a warm feeling. "Maybe I can take care of myself Jadis. I am. Stronger than anyone. I dont need your protection." Before the latter could respond she heard Alexi call out behind her. Charging for Bob. She looks up to see everyone rushing for Bob but no luck as a shockwave emits from him blasting them back past her. "STOP!" Jadis yelled out. Her magic reaching out to catch John and Bucky before they smashed into the wall. It was complete chaos. Senseless fighting. And all Jadis could do was keep everyone from dying. One wrong move and someone could get seriously hurt or worse. Bob's strength was unparalleled to everyone here. She looks over to see Valentina watching from behind a wall. With her magic she grips her by the throat lifting her into the hair with a scream that pulls Bob's attention. The latter appears behind Jadis grabbing her arm throwing her back to the other side of the room just before she catches herself. Bob seemingly coming towards her Jadis utters more latin. "Plena Praesidium!" A defense spell placing a barrier to keep him away from her which works. Bob's attention then fall from her to the Yelena jumping on his back. Everything was failing and Jadis could tell they needed to go. Bob threw Yelena cauing Jadis to leap through the air to catch her. John's shield bent in half. And Buckys arm being ripped off. "Go! Go!" Jadis yelled moving towards the elevator. She got onto platform along with everyone else. It was then she locked eyes with Bob who showed a sliver of remorse. Him silently pleading for her to stay. The side of him that met Jadis in the vault screaming out in pain. Locked from the inside.
If it wasn't for everyone else she could've broke down in tears. Stumbling out of the building she just wants to go home and forget everything. "We need to regroup and rethink. We are the Thunderbolts!" Alexi said trying to build morale. "I dont know what that means." Came Bucky to kill whatever was built if anything. All Jadis could do was catch her breath. Every emotion and everyones thoughts surrounding her she covered her ears and groans. All at once the sound of voices overwhelmed her. "Its alright. You're ok." Bucky said as he came to soothe her. Jadis looked up at Yelena as she yelled. "Oh so you're nice now?" John on the receiving end of Yelena ire. "No you know you're a piece of trash Walker so does your family." As much as John irks Jadis he did deserve that. "Stop. Stop. None of this is helping. He didnt deserve that." Jadis defended. "And what exactly did you do to help? You're the only one here who even compares to him and yet. You did nothing." Ava said to Jadis. "He has the power of a thousand exploding suns. I am a VVitch. There's only so many crystals and so much sage in my arsenal you get it?"
Yelena and Alexi broke off. Jadis looked up to the building. So many good memories here. To now be replaced with that. She looked around. New York was the only place she ever called home. Practically a nomad of the world. Never staying in one place. "Hey kid! Are you OK?" Bucky caught up with her. "I shouldn't have put so much faith in him. I dont do that. Ive only ever done that with a few people and they're all gone." She says tearing up. "Hey. Hey. It's gonna be ok." He said to her. Trying his best but even he didn't always believe that. "How? When? The Avengers are gone... my sister. My sister is floating somewhere in the cosmos. Her sons..." Bucky was a good listener. With a past like his he was no stranger to the heaviness and the helplessness. "I don't have anyone anymore. I just sit in a pile of books and scrolls. Translating ancient texts trying to figure out how to get my sister back but nothings working. And there are no other witches that want to be apart of it." Jadis reached out to witches all over. Jadis trying to form an official covenant. But no luck.
"At first I was just using her for her power. I knew Agatha wouldn't come after me if I was with her. But we both turned out to be what the other needed and now shes gone all over again. I lost her twice now. I lost everything since Thanos. He took everything..." Jadis felt his arms wrap around her. Doing his best to offer comfort. I'm sorry I haven't kept in touch. The thought flooded her mind. "You dont have to be sorry Bucky." She replied before he could voice his thought. "I know that Steve was our only tie. You don't owe me anything. It's alright." Bucky guided her away from the entrance and away from the gathering of people. "Steve or no Steve. You shouldn't have to be alone. I know you're an adult. And I know you can take care of yourself. It just bothers me that you're by yourself all the time." It felt great to have someone to talk to. Someone who actually cares. "But maybe we can change that. Sam has been looking for recruits. He's already got a kid, Joaquin. He's rebuilding the Avengers." Jadis felt a glimmer of hope. That was quickly replaced with a dark omen.
"Whats going on?" Bucky asked noticing chaos ensue. Jadis followed someone's gaze up to the sky seeing a dark figure. A familiar figure. Guns were heard from below. The crashing of a helicopter. Screaming surrounding the area. "Protego!" Everyone looks up to a green shield and then down to Jadis who is straining to keep the debris from crushing everyone. "GO! ALL OF YOU! NOW!" Those who could ran. The shield breaking and Bucky tackling Jadis out of the way. Everything was absolute chaos. And at the center of it all was Bob. The team all got back together to help everyone who couldn't help themselves. Reminding Jadis of a simpler time. Using her magic to help others not simply herself was where she felt the closest to being whole. Fighting alongside a family. Her sister. Now to be here with a few other down and outs? It was a thrilling feeling. Everyone's running around fleeing opposite directions. Jadis notices Ava picking up a man who just got body chucked. Alexi shielding civilians from falling debris. Bucky flipping over a moving truck with the impact of his arm. John with his taco shell safely guiding people to the subway. Yelena flying through the air pulling people out of the way of moving cars. If not for the immediate danger Jadis would be enjoying herself. Its like one of the old Avenger simulators. Then it happens. The team defining moment. First it was none other than John. Holding up the wall to allow a woman to escape from underneath. Followed one by one as the team all gathered to push the wall back. Leading to Jadis flying through the air and pushing it at the top providing the final push. The sound of cheering filling the air. The team standing around with Jadis floating just above them before touching down. People around cheered for them. Then the feeling of joy quickly replaced by that of nothingness.
One by one people start to disappear. Poofing out of existence. Reminding Jadis of the Snap. And once again... all she can do is watch. Her powers are useless to stop it. "Don't fight it." Jadis hears from behind her. And for a moment everything goes quiet. The sound of screams are muffled as Jadis turns around to see Bobs figure slowly coming down from the sky. "We're all alone in the end." Jadis just stood there as the figure hovered just in front of her. "What's the use of fighting what's inevitable? None of it matters." Jadis felt her pain skyrocket. What's going on around her topped with Bob himself topped with his words. Reminding her of how she used to feel as an orphan. And to be honest how she still feels sometimes. It was like he was a mirror looking back at her. Reflecting a time when all she could see was nothing but the struggle in front of her. "You dont have to be alone anymore. I will be there. Just like I always have." The figure said extending his hand down to her. Jadis let the sound of everything cut away. All there was, was the void. "Jadis! Get away from him!" She heard a voice call out from behind her. Probably Bucky. But she reached her hand up grabbing his. And all that was left was a shadow.
THE VOID
Foster Home
Jadis enters the void. The undeniable feeling of misery and self hatred. The smell of cigarette smoke invaded her nose. She opened her eyes to find herself once again in her last foster home before she ran away and became homeless. Little her sitting on the bed. "Bob!? This is getting old!" In came the foster father screaming. Jadis walked past him out of the door. Hearing herself scream and the crack of the leather belt. And once more found herself in the same spot she was before. And once again that same man burst in the door. And once again... the same events played out. Little Jadis being beaten. The older girl taking the blame. And that same girl who broke her neck followed by the screams of little green haired Jadis shattering all the windows in the house. The Jade VVitch sends a shockwave through the room creating cracks in the walls. She takes this opportunity to bang on the wall until it eventually gives way making her fall through. And into a familiar space.
Green Scriptorium
Jadis fall through the wall into her own study. A room she created on a different plane. The room where she spends most if not all of her time burried in books and scrolls trying to find Wanda. And there she was in the center of the chaos sleeping on the floor. Incense burning in her hand over a tray. Jadis saw herself and fell silent. Looking down at her feet for a moment in pain. The pain of isolation. The pain of loss. The hurt of knowing the person you love the most is alive. But is not capable of getting back to you. The Jade VVitch knelt down to Jadis and tired to pull a blanket over her. Only for Jadis to sit up suddenly blowing the incense and ash directly into her face uttering latin. The Jade VVitch choking on smoke filling with the relentless disappointment from each attempt to bring her sister back. And then like the snap of a finger the whole thing starts from the beginning. The Jade VVitch looking over herself on the ground. Looking around at her cauldron and herbs. The runes on the walls dedicating the space to her and her only.
Among them being the brooms Wanda and Jadis had made for each other. Now useless since Witches can't fly on brooms by themselves but only with a coven. "Jadis?" She hears from behind her. She turns around to see Bob. Not as he was before but as him. Brown locs and all. Turning back and forth he is now gone from the mirror. "Stop hiding from me Bob." She says before she sends a blast to the mirror cracking it. To then run into the broken glass followed by falling down a tree.
Wakanda
Standing up in a field a grass Jadis hears something. "VIS!" Yelled Wanda as she cried over Visions body. She started to walk forward. Seeing Wanda as she was before The Darkhold. Before Agatha Harkness. Before Thanos.
Even when Jadis and Wanda were with Steve Rogers on the run from the entire world Wanda was still her sister. In the time spent on the run Jadis and Wanda used illusion spells to make them look different. Allowing them to go into the world without people staring for once. Jadis even took Wanda to alternate dimentions. "I am truly grateful to have a sister like you." Wanda once told her. But when the war came to Earth everything changed.
Wanda looked up at Jadis. "There has to be something. A spell a.. a.. an incantation that will..." Jadis saw herself walk closer and kneel down in front of her. Looking over Vision. "Please sister." Wanda said crying. Jadis started to cry too. Reaching out to touch Wanda's face. Snatching it back at the familiar crack of thunder.
"Sister? WANDA! WANDA?!" The Jade VVitch ran away. Running through the trees and the tall grass all she could hear was herself scream for Wanda. Same as before she ended up back she's she was before. Wanda sobbing over Visions body. Looking up at Jadis. "There has to be something. A spell a.. a.. an incantation that will... Please sister." Whatever this was whatever Bob became this was the worst experience shes ever had to endure. "I'VE HAD ENOUGH!" Jadis screamed while sobbing. Until she looked down at the nearby pond. A reflection of Bob appeared. He looked sad. "Bob!" She smiles softly as she kneels. "I wanna talk to you. Let me through." Suddenly she is kneeling next to him. Looking up into his eyes.
Bobs Room
"Hi." Bob said in a hushed tone. Averting eye contact because of the shame of everything that happened. "I'm so sorry." Jadis wraps her arms around him pulling his head to rest on her. Sniffling trying to control herself. "I didn't mean to hurt you before. I can't control it." Jadis pulled back to look at him. "I will try to help. But you gotta let everyone go Bob you have to stop this." He shook his head. Looking down in shame as he contemplated his words. "I can't. It's not me i.. i.. its it. The Void." Jadis theorized Bobs ability was a manifestation of his mental health. But this is far more than she expected. "I have days where I feel invincible. But then the are alot of bad days when I remember that... that nothing matters." Jadis understands what he's saying. More importantly she feels what he's saying. "And... you won't try to do something about it?" She asks him. Someone like him shouldn't have to go through this. Someone like Jadis. "There's no point in fighting it. At least I found a nice room. The other rooms are much worse.
"Yeah I just came from a few... it is nice and peaceful in here." Just as she finished a voice echos through the room. Jadis looks down between she and Bob. "You just make it worse. You make everything worse." Jadis almost started to cry. "Is that you?" She whispers. If there's anything she knows its being abused. A kid who can't defend themselves against adults who know and prey on that. She looked up into his eyes.
After sitting together for a bit Yelena is the next to come through. "I'm sorry for what I said before. What I said was wrong Bob. You can't stuff it down. You can't hold it in. No one can." Jadis smiled at her words. "We have to let it out. We have to spend time together. And even if it doesn't make the emptiness go away I promise you it will feel lighter." Bob looks between Jadis and Yelena both sitting on either sides of him. "How do you know?" Have you ever met someone so sweet? Seemingly pure of heart. "Because it already has for me." She finally says to him. "Me too." Both Yelena and Bob looked to Jadis. Looking down Interlocking her fingers with him. "My sister... Wanda. She was taken from me. Once by Thanos and then she was taken by magic. A dark power that I myself once possessed. It infects your soul and turns you into something evil... it did to me..." Bob tightens the grip with their hands. "Is that why you said your soul was darkened forever?" Bob asked to which she confirmed. "It got her. And she did... horrible things trying to get her children back. She became what I once was. And it scared me to the point where I didnt even help Stephen Strange when he asked me to confront her. And now shes gone and I did nothing to try and save her." She says as she tears up. "An... and now shes gone. And I have nothing. And I've just been pouring myself into witchcraft trying to find answers. But my sister is gone. And I cant get her back." She said voice cracking, making Yelena shutter.
"Me too..." Jadis looks to Yelena and nods. "Natasha. I'm so sorry." Jadis grabs her hand. "At the times she would let her guard down she loved to tell me about you. How strong you were. How loyal. And kind. She wasn't wrong. I'm sorry about your sister." Yelena grips her hand tightly fighting back a tear. "I'm sorry about your sister." She says making Jadis smile. "We've all gained so much by this. By meeting each other." Yelena follows up with. "Bob? Will you try and leave here with us?" Bob looks between them and then agrees. Before a side table comes flying at Yelena. Bob blocks a bit of the hit. Then to do the same for Jadis when something came at her. Standing up they're met with literally everything the room could throw at them. The three of them end up being choked by a sheet connecting at the center before Ava came through and cut it. The team gathered together and defended themselves against the flying objects before it all stopped. Eventually all starting to go from room to room. Some worse than others.
Meth Chicken
"What is that?" Jadis yelled. "Oh no." Bob recognizes himself dressed as a chicken whaling on everything with a sign. "I WAS ON METH!" Bob yelled before the chicken got punched out. All of them then running out of that room. Falling into one of Jadises rooms.
Darkhold Era
It was Jadis. With the book floating in the center of the room. Between herself... and Agatha Harkness. "What do we do?!" John yelled out gaining the attention of the two dark witches. Everyone breaks off avoiding the spells being thrown at them. Agathas banter bringing back memories for Jadis. Agatha pushes herself into the air before The Jade VVitch shoots a bolt of her magic towards Agatha forgetting for the moment of her succubus power.
She absorbed her power to then have Ava phase in the air tackling her to the ground. Bucky coming behind her to lay a punch to her face with the metal arm. Harsh. Then it comes to the other one. The Jade VVitch steps in front of the others and faces herself. Without a word said they shoot their magic towards each other. But only one witch is more powerful. And thats our beloved Green VVitch.
Salem Massachusetts
It was the last room. Everyone was standing outside. "Why isn't anything attacking us?" Bucky asked. "I... I know this place." Jadis said out loud. Then she heard it. Herself at 13 on the streets. Everyone turned around to see a little green haired girl shivering at a bus stop. Wrapped in a tatted blanket trying to stay warm. "You're not gonna get up and try to stab us are you?" Jadis didnt answer John. "You are an orphan?" Alexi asked as he stepped closer to little Jadis. "My mother died when I was young. And I technically don't have a father." AGATHA ALL ALONG S1E9
A/N. When Agatha gave birth to her son Nicholas Scratch this is what she said. Indicating that instead of a pregnancy spell she just did it the old fashion way.
"That's the reason most witches are female. With the incantation we only get X chromosomes from our mothers so. I was all alone." Jadis continued before someone she dreaded walked up. Causing Jadis to jump in fear being caught by the group. "What? What?" Yelena questions.
"Hello. Are you hungry child?" The man asked. Little Jadis didnt even move. "Come on. I know a pretty little VVitch like you could do with some food." How did he know she was a witch? Before Jadis even knew she was a witch? "What did you call me?" Little Jadis asked the man. "Oh.. you don't..." In the blink of an eye Jadis and the man were now in a restaurant. Hot food on the table in front of the young girl who hadn't eaten in two days. "I'm sure you must be famished." Jadis started to devour the plates in front of her while the man across from her just chuckled.
"Whats going on? None of these doors lead anywhere." Walker asked as he attempted to leave the darkness as the team did with everyone else's memories. But this was different. "Jadis who is that man?" Bucky asked. Jadis stood paralyzed in fear watching herself with this man. Bob coming to hold her hand. Hearing her heavy breathing he grew worried.
"Ahh hungry little VVitch aren't you?" The man asked amused. "What are you talking about dude?" Jadis asked the man while sucking down a milkshake. "Haven't you ever wondered why glass seems to shatter when you're scared?" He caught her attention finally. "Why when you get angry and lash out. People get seriously hurt? Why your hair is... unique? You're powerful. Too powerful. And you don't even realize." The Jade VVitch was shaking her head wishing she never had met this man. Even though he was the reason she was alive present day. This was too much. The price was too much. "What do you want?" Jadis asked him. The man swirling his spoon in a cup before setting it down.
"Its not about what I want you beautiful VVitch its about what you want. What do you want?" The man just studied Jadis. The young girl confused. "I want a million dollars. But you don't have it." The man waved his hand and the whole restaurant stood still. Silence. No annoying kids. No footsteps. Nothing. "What if I told you that I am like you. Just... stronger? Hm? What if... I told you there are others like you out there? Women who are... different." Jadis sat up at this temptation. "Come on kid. You gotta give me something. What do you want?" His voice getting deeper almost demonic. Jadis looked around. "I want to be strong. I want to protect myself. I don't want to have to rely on anyone ever again. I want a home." The man smiled. "Power. Freedom. Guidance." He simply said. "That is what you need. And I can give you the tools to have it all. I have a friend. She and I... exchange business on a regular basis yada yada yada. Anyway. I will point her in your direction. Until then. You need not worry about where you will sleep. Or when you will eat your next meal. You will remain here. And the owner of this establishment will give you her home upstairs. After she vacates. But dont worry she will still run the restaurant so you get free food." The man waved his hand the owner still in her trance left and went upstairs where she packed. "Just until my associate finds you." Jadis just gave him an odd look. "Who are you?" He smiles. "I have many names. Some more hurtful to me than others but... I like you Jadis so I'll tell you what. You can call me... Mephisto."
The Jade VVitch had to be caught by Bob as it seems she almost collapsed. The reasoning behind the veins on her face. She made a deal with the devil at one point. And using the Darkhold took more than the average toll. "Who the hell is that?" John yelled out. "We have to go... now!" Jadis begun to panic before running through a door followed by everyone. She just ended up in the same place. "Do we have a deal little VVitch." Mephisto said demonicly as he stuck out his hand. And Jadis shook it. He got up and begun to walk out. Before he turned... "You've grown powerful little VVitch... A deals a deal. I'll be seeing you soon love." It was obvious... he was talking to The Jade VVitch that time before she turns and pushes everyone back. And now... they were in what looked like to be a lab.
The Lab
Bob looked around. "Who was that man?" Alexi asked. Jadis didnt answer. Instead Bob spoke. "This is where it all started." Jadis looked around in disbelief. "I can't believe what they were doing to people. Inhumane. What they did to you." Bob told everyone about how he got here. How he was roaming around Malaysia just looking for more drugs. And how there was a man who told him about a clinical trial. How it would be a miracle. How Bob could be special. "And look what you unleashed." Uttered a voice across the room in the place of a shadow. He moved unimpressed. "The worst part is. You thought you could be more than you are. Nothing." It was indescribable the feeling emanating off of him. "That's enough." Jadis said stepping forward grabbing Bobs hand. "We're leaving. Now." The Void just chuckled at her. "You're not leaving me Jadis." He says. Suddenly Jadis is lifted off the ground gasping for air like shes being choked and thrown on the wall behind the dark void. She gripped her neck in an attempt to get oxygen. Then metal tables went flying at the other members of the team all except Bob. The latter stood there watching what was happening to his friends. The Void stood there mocking him. Taunting him. Digging out all of his fears and insecurities. And what was worse was that he wasn't wrong because he was Bob himself. Everything he said was how Bob felt about himself. "Stop. J.. Just let them go." Jadis tried to scream no at the idea of Bob doing this alone. "You think they care about you? You dont matter." The shadow said back to him. "Thats... not tr.. true!" Jadis grunted out through the grip on her throat. "She's a liar..." He said to Bob. Yelena yelling out the same thing behind Bob and then ends up getting a wire wrapped around her throat. Bob trying to stand up to himself does. Its an actual fight. Bob lays a few but is mainly the punchee. Punch after punch and The Void just taunts him relentlessly. Changing the room making both Jadis and the rest of the Thunderbolts be pushed away. Isolating then two in the center of the room. "We will always be alone." Bob gets up and charges at him. Tackles him to the ground and lays it to him. Jadis is able to utter something in latin that makes herself drop to the ground gasping for air. "Expelle... hoc malum. Expelle hoc malum. Expelle hoc malum." After a few seconds of coughing she looks up. Noticing how with each blow landed by Bob the other side of him is getting stronger. "Bob no!" Jadises voice strains as she takes off towards him. The room starts sending obstacles. Left and right Jadis ducks, shields, or blasts all of the things coming at her. At the same time she sees Yelena doing the same.
Jadis runs until she is right next to him. Holding him. Shushing him. Yelena coming to hug the other side of him. "We're here." And then one by one everyone descended on the group hug. The room was breaking apart as the team was finally able to pull Bob from the darkness.
New York
Everyone is safe. Everyone is back in New York. Jadis looks over to Bob and smiles. The team gets up. Alexi surprised Jadis by hugging her. Adding to the group he pulls Yelena in as well. Holding each of them too tight just like an overbearing father would. Muttering something in Russian before kissing both of their heads. After Jadis escapes from the hug she checks on Bob. "Hey." She says as she rests her hand on his shoulder. "Hi." He smiles at her. Everything around them started to calm. Everyone hugging their loved ones. Jadis can hear a few thoughts from the people stuck in what just happened. The pain and the grief. She chooses to shut it all out and stay present. "You were great in there Bob." John complimented. Jadis appreciated how more human he appeared as time went on. "Thanks Walker. I.. in where?" It was like Bobs mind was wiped completely off the prior events. "Woah... what happened here?" Everyone was taken aback. Alexi to go as far as to ask if Bob was joking. "Are you alright Bob?" Yelena asked him. He looked at her with absolutely no clue what was going on. And then Jadis remembered what he said about his good days and bad days. And how he forgets a lot. Must be a truma response. Jadis wraps both her arms around his right arm causing his gaze to shift to her. Resting her chin on his shoulder she smiled at him causing Bob to smile back.
From behind them they hear none other than Valentina talking on the phone. Jadis breaks her hold on Bob and gets a deadly look on her face. Alexi stood beside her with the same idea. "I am going to kill that person." He says. "As long as I can have her heart. There's a potion I have been wanting to try for years." Jadis smiles like a villian.
"Help! Please can one of you help? My husband..." A man came running up towards the group yelling. Taking all of the rage from Jadises body. She looks back and the to the team. "Get her. I'll help him." Jadis walks one way while the Thunderbolts walk after Valentina who is nervously moving away. Yelena grabs Bob who's staring back watching Jadis wave her hands moving rubble off a mans leg before they walk through a tarp. Coming out the other side they are surrounded by cameras. Valentina threw together a last minute plan to make sure she still got everything. "Today the citizens of the United States. Needed that protection. And thanks to my hard work. The got it. I give you..."
Jadis heard Valentinas voice and cheers after helping the man in the rubble she started carrying herself through the air. Everyone looked up as Jadis came in landing behind Valentina and Yelena. The surrounding crowd cheered louder and camera flashes went off relentlessly. Bucky stepped forward and whispered into her ear. Jadis didnt like what she was hearing and was tempted to tell the truth. But he pointed out that if Valentina goes down now something bad would happen to Bob. Jadis stepped forward. "And who better to assist the team of New Avengers than The Jade VVitch herself!" Valentina rang out as she stepped next to her. Jadis smiled. Bringing her hand to rest on Valentinas shoulder. Where a sudden ringing started to invade her mind.
Jadises voice echos in Valentinas ear. "Step out of line. Traffic another human or weapon. Threaten Wakanda... Try any of this again. And I will give you to her..." Jadis points past the silent cheering crowd and into the darkness. Valentina gets a heavy feeling on her chest as she starts to hyperventilate. Seeing something to leave her permanently shaken.
"Contessa..." The voice of Death invaded her mind.
She screams before the sound of cheers and applause find her ears once more. Valentina looks around to see no one noticed her little panic just then as everyone is acting completely normal. Valentina then looks over to Jadis who's green veins crawl on her cheeks. The look of satisfaction on her face as reporters asked questions.
14 Months Later...
Jadis was walking on the street with a box in her hand headed for the tower. Everyone gasping, pointing, and going live showing Jadis in public. Riding up on the elevator she meets the team coming back from a mission.
"And where have you been?" Ava asked looking down at the box with holes in the top. "Sam asked me for help and I just got back. Also wanted me to meet a recruit. Kamala Khan. Sweet kid." A few of the New Avengers rolled their eyes. Jadis offered her services to both teams not just one. She was friends with both not just one. "You know he's filed for copyright of the name?" Yelena asked Jadis. She did know. But this petty fued wasn't doing anyone any good. "Who are the real Avengers?" Yelena asked. "According to the internet... they dont think its us. The only one here with good coverage is Jadis." John pulls out a tablet and scrolls before pulling up articles. "The Jade VVitch seen with mystery man from the New Avengers. (Bob) The Jade VVitch cracks prostitution ring. The War of The Avengers: The Jade VVitch caught in the middle?" He even pulled up a meme.
The New Avengers at 100% strength with a picture of the entire team. And then below it is the same picture but with only Jadis showing in it with, The New Avengers at 99% underneath. Jadis shook her head looking up to see Alexi in a ugly track suit. The latter coming over to hug Jadis welcoming her home. Over the past year Alexi informally adopted Jadis as his daughter. Alexi then talking about his Avengerz idea to avoid copyright. His suits even for Bob in the corner reading his book. He's been doing amazing but he has moments. "I can't be the Sentry without the other guy coming out. But I did the dishes." He looked over to Jadis who opened the box. "He's fine. Besides. Bob. I got us a special friend." She said holding a black kitten.
"A kitty!" Bob smiled putting down the book and cleaning himself off. "Let me guess. Its name is Salem." John said rolling his eyes at the idea of a cat running around as Jadis gave Bob the kitten. "That is a stereotype that I dont appreciate." She fought back. "So its not Salem?" Jadis rolls her eyes at John's question. "Of course her name is Salem I'm a VVitch dont believe ridiculous I just didn't like when you said it." She said making John laugh before the threat analysis Yelena ordered came into view for the whole team. The team watching a ship enter the atmosphere. Looking closer to see a 4 on the side of it. "Calculate their landing probability." Jadis gave the command to the computer before she and the rest of the team Bob included went for the ship. Whatever is after Thanos is coming. Jadis can feel it...
