👽 Random X-Files Fic Rec
OMG the drama of this story! It begins with Scully alone and in dire straits, and that's before she has to reunite with Mulder and convince Mulder she's not dead and deal with why she ended up in dire straits in the first place. Whew! (Note: this story was posted in 1997 when content warnings were rarely included with fics. No content warnings are provided, but in an abundance of caution, I will add that this fic could come with a trigger warning for rape.) Title: The Rarity of the Human Connection and Several Months Missed Author: MD1016 Summary: Scully in jeopardy, Mulder in mourning, and their connection. Length: 191k (~34,100 words) Classification: Action/Adventure, MSR, Angst Rating: PG with a dash of NC-17 to taste. Spoilers: One Breath Favorite line: And as the medication started taking effect, to became harder and harder to find the words. Dear Mulder? Hey, Shmucky-Who-Now-Believes-Everything-He's-Told? Read the story!

It’s pretty rare when a sequel is better than the original. Most of the saga’s or movie collections you look at, for example, the first movie is always the best out of all of them. The only exception we can think of right now is The Godfather and The Godfather 2 (if you disagree that 2 is better than 1, fight us. We will not budge on this.).
Normally, the fic world is no different. The sequels are good, but the originals are freaking epic and cannot be touched. That is until today’s rec came along.
Last week we gave you MD1016′s “Journal 1999″ and it was incredible. This week we are handing over the sequel, and you’ll be thanking us for it. It picks up immediately where last week’s left off, and takes off at full speed without asking if you’ve buckled up first.
One last note: If Dag isn’t your absolute favorite after reading this, then we must question if you even have a heart. By the end of the story, we were already drafting a petition to make him a reoccurring character in every fic from this day forward.
Title: Journal 2000
Author: MD1016
Rating: NC-17 at parts
Length: 455K / 232,000+ Word Count
Synopsis: The struggle continues. A sequel to Journal 1999.
Spoilers: Anything up to season 7
Possible Triggers: None

There is no other story like this one. Scully is abducted again and returns home to an entirely new situation. The abduction isn’t the focus here - love and home is. Mulder and Scully leave DC, and it would be entirely unsettling and sad but for the fact that they have each other as they search for (and find?) a new home. It’s a classic. Title: Jasper’s Last Thought Author: MD1016 Summary: Scully is abducted again, and returned to find her world has changed. Length: 14k (~5,600 words) Classification: Romance, Angst Rating: PG Spoilers: None Favorite line: “You can stay with me as long as you like…forever. If you want.” Read the story!

First place winner of 1999′s Outstanding Apocalypse / Post Colonization Spooky Award, today’s rec is nothing short of incredible and is completely deserving of the bragging rights that come with that award.
This fic has everything that we could ask for: it’s action packed, an emotional roller coaster, on point MSR, and the original characters are utter perfection. The expertise and knowledge that it takes for an author to write Mulder and Scully so ‘in character’ is nothing to laugh at, it’s something that writers to this day still struggle with. MD1016 truly nails their characterization.
The one thing that really shines through with this fic, however, is the connection between Mulder and Scully. Even if post-colonization normally isn’t your ‘thing,’ we encourage you to read this one.
Title: Journal 1999

Length: 200K / 100,000+ Word

Spoilers: Anything up until Season 7
Possible Triggers: None that we are aware of

When she looks at him, it's hard not to see the man she works beside day in and day out. She sees her partner. Her partner who's trying to get her off.
💖 What do you like most about your own writing? 🍰 Name one of your fave comfort fics (doesn’t have to be your all time fave). 💭 What is a headcanon you have about your own work?
- Hmmm. I kind of like the imagery and description I can bring to the table sometimes. I know that's what people comment on a lot.
- Fave comfort fics? That's hard. The one I ALWAYS remember is an X-Files one from way back when. The woman that wrote this also helped me write a lot better after offering to help me with something. I'll always be grateful to her, and it's sad, because I tried to email her recently to say Hi, but her email is a gonner.
Mulder takes Scully on her dream vacation but things don't quite go to plan.
- Hmm, I actually don't know lol I mean, the one I'm currently writing is AU after a certain part in the show so IDK if there's anything there.

This story is a real ride of adventure, romance, and angst. It’s one of the first long non-casefile X-Files stories I remember reading, and it was jaw-dropping how captivating it was for Mulder and Scully to be so Mulder and Scully but in a totally foreign context that still pulls in and resolves plot points from the show. Originally posted in 1997, this one’s a classic (or should be). Title: Erlona’s Heart Author: MD1016 Summary: Mulder takes Scully on her dream vacation. Length: 456k (~79,400 words) Classification: M/S romance Rating: NC-17 Spoilers: Season 4 Favorite line: I accidentally deleted my notes about favorite lines in this story, so let’s go with the whole scene of Scully drinking the yellow juice. It’s … something. Read the story!
