The royal show is on at the moment and I got picked to be assistant to the beef carcase competition coordinator. So I spent yesterday from 5am-midday in the chillers and on the kill floor and today from 3am(!!!)-1pm with Natty as well. It was so good, I helped take down the ear tag numbers and body numbers and we made sure all of our bodies were in the right chillers then did fat distribution scores and today the three of us took photos or each carcase's (193!!!) butt and shortloin as we'll as a photo of their ribeyes. Then once all the graders were done and the numbers were crunched we checked the winners and took photos with their ribbons for the exhibitors. It was 2 very long days but so worth it and I wore enough layers and the meat coat so the cold wasn't really an issue. And bonus I got free tickets to the show for helping out plus a great contact in the industry.
