Tom and Jerry Headcanons: Butch Cat
Butch! I always felt like they could do more with his character rather than just make him an enemy/rival to Tom. So here, I'm giving him the depth he deserves!
-Butch Cat off-screen is actually a pretty decent guy. He's a reliable and dependable friend and has gotten Tom out of quite a few troubles.
-However, Butch is not without his flaws. One of Butch’s BIGGEST flaws is that he’s very coarse. He swears, he talks tough, he doesn’t really care for social niceties… and this has caused him to unwittingly and unwillingly offend quite a few people.
-Another of Butch’s flaws is that he can be…aggressive. Especially when he feels if something or someone he loves is being threatened. He has gotten into several fights with other cats who make unwanted cat-calls or at Toodles or gotten handsy with her.
-A bad habit of Butch is that he’s a nail/claw biter. He’s often chewing and picking at his own claws, or just trying to get dirt out of them. Toodles has been trying to get him out of this habit.
-Butch is VERY into vintage magazines, especially ones about different cultures, advertisements, and items. He’s not into pin-up models at all. They all look the same to him and none of them can compare to Toodles.
-Butch also REALLY likes collecting cigars and smoking pipes. That's because he used to be a habitual smoker back in the day before Toodles got him to quit. Now, he collects rare cigars and smoking pipes as a way to show how he's conquered his addiction.
-Butch’s favorite song is ‘Over the Rainbow.’ It’s why he’s often humming it or singing it in the cartoons he’s in.
-Matter of fact, Butch is a BIG fan of the Wizard of Oz in general. He’s not a big fan of the musical Wicked though, as he feels it’s “overrated” and takes the magic out of what made Wizard of Oz so special in his eyes.
-Butch is into alcohol. He’s not an alcoholic, but he does love going to drinks out with Tom and the rest of the cats (aka Topsy, Lightning, and Meathead). Out of all of them, he has the second best alcohol tolerance (it’s Meathead that has the best).
-Butch’s FAVORITE short would have to be the 1946 short Springtime For Thomas. Not only was it the short he met Toodles in, he had a genuine blast filming it and loved competing against Tom in the short. Plus, he got to win in the end!
-Butch's absolute LEAST favorite short is the 1956 short 'Blue Cat Blues.' He hated the way he was portrayed as a rich rival (went against his entire character), he HATED the co-star playing his supposed "love interest" (Victoria), who was just as much of a gold-digger and manipulative) off screen and he hated the melancholy tone. He helped Tom and Jerry sabotage Victoria backstage as much as he could during the short.
-Butch is happily dating Toodles Galore. Their relationship is solid, loving, and built on mutual playfulness. Butch had always had a crush on her since they were first paired together in the short Springtime For Thomas...it was only after he got to know Toodles for her personality that he REALLY started to like her. Tom and Jerry helped the two get together through a series of clever schemes and mishaps.
-Butch and Tom are great friends, best friends even. The two often hang out together after shorts or explore the rooftops together when Tom isn't with Jerry. Obviously Butch knows he'll never take Jerry's place in Tom's heart but he doesn't mind it.
-Butch doesn’t mind Jerry. He can say he even respects the mouse’s cunning and craftiness. The two are friendly at best and distant acquaintances at worst.
