A tasty and flavorful vegan substitute for traditional ham is tofu ham. Baked until golden and delicious, it is made with extra-firm tofu marinated in a smoky, sweet, and tangy sauce.
Ingredients: 1 block extra-firm tofu. 1/4 cup soy sauce. 2 tablespoons maple syrup. 1 tablespoon liquid smoke. 1 teaspoon paprika. 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder. 1/2 teaspoon onion powder. 1/4 teaspoon black pepper.
Instructions: After pressing the tofu to get rid of extra water, cut it into thin strips. To make a marinade, combine the soy sauce, maple syrup, liquid smoke, paprika, onion powder, garlic powder, and black pepper in a small bowl. Transfer the tofu strips to a shallow dish and cover them completely with marinade. For optimal flavor, marinate for at least 30 minutes or overnight. Set oven temperature to 375F 190C. Spread out the marinated tofu strips in a single layer on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper. Bake until the tofu is firm and lightly browned, about 20 to 25 minutes, flipping it halfway through. Tofu ham can be sliced and served as a high-protein snack or added to salads and sandwiches once it has cooled.
