I am going to start with my story.
I used to love meat. Beef, pork, chicken, lamb„ I enjoyed it so much. I didn’t realize that I had been eating too much meat and didn’t notice it’s one of major problems in the world.
When I was in the U.S. I gained so much weight. It was not just because of my meat consumption but it was one of the reason. I decided to get on a diet last spring. I heard that exercise effects 20% on losing weights. To succeed in diet I had to eat healthier and low calorie foods.
So I made some rules and plans.
And I had almost same breakfast, lunch and dinner for about 5 months.
BREAKFAST: pieces of grapefruit, banana, apple, cereal with milk
LUNCH: boiled eggs, celery, coffee
DINNER: chicken breast, celery, grapefruit, boiled egg
Through this diet plan, I could reduce my meat consumption. Eating less meat was one of my diet rules, but heavy weight was not the only reason.
Early in last year, I watched this horrible documentary about livestock which affects many people to reduce their consumption of meat. Some people have turned into a vegan after watching the show.
It was called, “Animals, rights of happiness - if the meat gets sick, humans get sick too.”
Here’s a short cut of the documentary show; http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BlDiP7sbfLQ
People destroy the eco-system to make money. To make their livestocks grow bigger and produce more meat, they give them a shot which stimulates their body to have more flash, and turn them into carnivore from herbivore.(chickens and cows. Pigs are omnivorous animals)
Even worse, people physically abuse the animals - kicking, beating, holding their necks, tails, or horns, stamping and neglecting and leaving sick animals alone until they die. They torture and kill them recklessly. People ignore the animals because they think they can’t talk or feel. But they have their own language and have emotions, feelings.
You can see a clip of “Mercy For Animals“‘s undercover investigation at a livestock auction in California where animal abuse committed; http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=o2_KlJE5PAc
How can they eat it after what they have done?
High level of meat consumption is not just a moral problem. It has health and environmental problems.
As you already know, eating too much meat causes so many kinds of health problems. Fatal heart disease from high level of cholesterol, colorectal cancer caused by carcinogens from meat, and obesity which is a basic cause of almost every disease.
Even when I gained some weights few years ago, I felt my body sores sometimes, and body was feeling a little heavy. I think it was a symptom of losing health. After I stopped eating meat, even when I didn’t lose much weight my body felt light and healthier.
From this documentary film called “Meat the truth”, it demonstrates that intensive livestock production is one of the most important causes of climate change, which has repeatedly ignored. It says that livestock farming generates more greenhouse gas emissions worldwide than all cars, lorries, trains and planes added together.

These resourceful medias and information made my life better. I am not a vegetarian but eating less meat feels still great. When I was a meat-lover, I was afraid that maybe I will lose strength if I don’t consume meat as much as I did. But it’s not like that at all. You can still get the same amount and quality of nutrition and strengths from other healthy foods.
I am not saying we should stop eating meat. All I am saying is we should reduce the consumption of it. Don’t you think We eat too much meat considering the population? The extremely high number of livestock production is continuously increasing to supply the demands. Telling the industry to stop producing won’t work out. Your small action will change the world.
Love you.
You're awesome enough.
