My first 6 months of medical school
So my first lot of major exams for medicine are coming up on Monday! Although I have already completed a few anatomy exams, this will be my first major summative short answer/multi choice exam for Year 1 Medicine. I’m both nervous and excited.
The first 6 months of medicine has given me a quick introduction to all the systems in the body. As well as that, I became competent in performing cardiovascular examinations, learned how to do injections, complete basic life support, reading x-rays, and experienced placement in a variety of community health settings (including palliative care, children’s health, and geriatric/disabled services). I was also fortunate enough to observe (and assist) in an autopsy, and received a prestigious scholarship that will provide me the opportunity to travel to a rural hospital and engage with doctors for a few weeks each year to gain further hands-on experience in a medical setting.
Next semester will introduce me to other physical examinations (including GI and resp), more cadaver dissections, GP placements, and an in depth look at the major systems of the body.
