If you're considering running the Princess Half marathon, it's 89% full. And it's 44 days away. So get in there! (And join me, wee!)
So I was reading Run Disney facebook page and a woman wrote how they run for the Make A Wish foundation. One of her team members ran his first half marathon and they were talking to a seven year old boy (who had made his wish to be there) afterward who was admiring his medal. And this man, who had run his first half marathon, took his medal off and gave it to this seven year old boy.
What an amazing act of kindness! Truly. (Of course I cried just READING this story.)
Someone commented about the organization Medals4Mettle. From their website: Medals4Mettle (M4M) is a non-profit organization that facilitates the gifting of marathon, half marathon, and triathlon finishers’ medals. Runners from around the world give their hard earned medals to Medals4Mettle. Our worldwide network of physicians and volunteers then awards these medals attached to a Medals4Mettle ribbon to children and adults fighting debilitating illnesses who might not be able to run a race, but are in a race of their own just to continue to live their life. It is in honor of this mettle and courage in bravely facing these challenges that they are awarded a medal.
I know that often times, people don't know what to do with their medals, other than display them or put them on Christmas trees (hi, that was me this year). Here is another option. I don't know if I'm at this point yet... but if I continue running, I just might be.
