15 Character Questions
Rules: Pick a character from your WIP, and have them answer these 15 questions, then tag 15 people!
Thanks @hopefullyanauthor for tagging me! I’m going to do Holly.
1: What is your full name?
Holly Vi*let Delarosa (can’t have people knowing my middle name,,, yknow))
2: What does your full name mean?
See, my brother’s name is Hawthorne, so my parents thought it’d be a great idea to name me Holly. Both plants, both H’s. Both of our middle names are colors, too. His is Indigo, mine is- wait, uh,,,,
3: What are your other names/nicknames?
Rather not say...
4: What’s your gender?
Female
5: What’s your sexuality?
I’m straight.
6: Where are you from?
Somewhere around here... *squints at the map* I’m sorry, it’s pretty blurry. Guess my creator hasn’t decided yet. That happens.
7: How old are you?
I’m a wee lass of 14.
8: What is your magic form/what species are you?
I don’t have a magic form, not really, but I do have magic. It’s called medeis, the power to travel between worlds. It just hasn’t... activated yet? I know I have it. I do!
9: What does your human form look like?
I have horribly short, always stringy blonde hair and my skin is alway oily and I have the muddiest hazel eyes you’ve ever seen. My height? No comment.
10: What’s your aesthetic?
Messy beds, messy hair, oversized sweaters, soft blankets....it is an aesthetic! Cozy aesthetic.
11: Who’s your best friend?
Sabian! He acts like he doesn’t care about me, but I know he does. I mean, I like everyone at the house, but sometimes they take their teasing too far. Also he’s the only one that gets my niche interests and jokes.
12: Would you ever get a piercing/ tattoo?
The double ear piercings look cool! Alejandra has them. And Kusao used to have a ton, snake eyes and eyebrows and everything, but he took them out when he moved to Hanzlet in the other world. Maybe I’d get a nose piercing? But pain? No thank you!
13: When are you happiest?
When I’m alone watching my current favorite show. Preferably under a blanket. Or when I get a lot of sleep...I’m a simple gal.
14: What’s your biggest secret?
I read Sabian’s poetry. I know I really shouldn’t, he hasn’t even told me he writes poetry but I really like it. It’d be bad if it came out because Hawthorne would probably laugh at it. I know it’s bad. I know. But he doesn’t *wink*
15: What was your first impression of … ?
Oh, were you mumbling that last part? You mean medeis? When it activated in my brother, he became really sick, bedridden, stuck in the hospital and everything. It made me really scared, as crazy as it is to admit. I didn’t want him to die. And then when we found out what it really was, when we met Kusao and he offered to teach him how to use it? It was a different thing. I was left out. The house started to fill up with medeis users. And I was the odd one out.
So no, I don’t like it. But I do have it.

darksideofseoul replied to your post: MEDI
Darling, I would deserve it. /he whispers, cupping your cheeks and leaning in to kiss you gently; I’m the worst, I know, but I’ve missed you, and I need to know everything that I missed!
“Natsu’s walking and talking, Kuma has two babies of his own, and I got a small little puppy.” he laughed, kissing him softly. “I missed you so much, have you been well? You look like you haven’t been eating enough.” he huffed.
Novel Prep Tag
Have you heard of this tag? Neither have I! Bc it’s new! Thanks @gottaenjoythelittlethingzz for tagging me (ages ago)! So, basically, I’ll be answering a bunch of questions about my wip Medeis. Which is perfect, you know, getting back into the swing of things after nano and all (also, I now know why they say don’t take random long breaks :)
Rules: Answer the questions and then tag as many writers as there are questions answered (or as many as you can) to spread the positivity! Even if these questions are not explicitly brought up in the novel, they are still good to keep in mind when writing.
FIRST LOOK
1. Describe your novel in 1-2 sentences (elevator pitch)
Holly and her friends have medeis, the power to travel between worlds. When her mother gets kidnapped and the other medeis users get attacked on their journey to find her, Holly and her friends have to find everyone in an unfamiliar world.
2. How long do you plan for your novel to be? (Is it a novella, single book, book series, etc.)
It would look good in a series of 3 books, but idk exactly where it goes after this book, so maybe that’s just my number aesthetic talking. Nothing over 3 books, though, for sure.
3. What is your novel’s aesthetic?
Dirt roads, long dark cloaks, knives, matches, fire
4. What other stories inspire your novel?
Uhhh....idk? I haven’t read anything I’d say is similar in the past, and I haven’t been reading new books recently (oops I got exposed)
5. Share 3+ images that give a feel for your novel
I...skip bc I don’t feel like looking for pictures. But here’s a thing I made for it:
MAIN CHARACTER
6. Who is your protagonist?
Holly Delarosa
7. Who is their closest ally?
Hrm. There’s Alejandra and Sabian, the two medeis users who she goes on the journey with.
8. Who is their enemy?
Good question, one that Holly struggles with on the daily.
9. What do they want more than anything?
Before the story? To have her medeis awakened. During? To have her family and friends reunited.
10. Why can’t they have it?
The first one is because medeis users are so rare and unknown in both worlds that if there’s any way to bring out the medeis power, nobody has researched it. The second is because she doesn’t know where they are, she doesn’t even know where she is.
11. What do they wrongly believe about themselves?
She can’t make people take her seriously.
12. Draw your protagonist! (Or share a description)
She’s short (like 5 feet), with short blonde hair and light skin. She has green eyes and idk what else to add.
PLOT POINTS
13. What is the internal conflict?
She has to deal with e m o t i o n s (literally the internal conflict of every character ever). But seriously, she’s the youngest and she doesn’t have medeis. She’s always been treated like a child, and she wants to prove her worth.
14. What is the external conflict?
Holly needs to find her friends and family.
15. What is the worst thing that could happen to your protagonist?
Death.
16. What secret will be revealed that changes the course of the story?
Spoilers? lmao
17. Do you know how it ends?
I thought I did but then I introduced a character that was supposed to show up in book two. So. Anything could happen.
BITS AND BOBS
18. What is the theme?
I don’t know, whatever you want to take away from it.
19. What is a recurring symbol?
Matches/fire
20. Where is the story set? (Share a description!)
Ooh okay! So they are in a country in the other world called Hanzlet, and they are in the capital, which is Mendacio. It is a large city with mountains on south and a forest up north which surrounds the royal palace. There is the 1787 River, which cuts right through the city. This also creates a difference in status. The south has the ghetto districts, and a lot of poorer places. The north has many wealthy neighborhoods. The north and south are very divided because many people in the south can’t afford to pay the tolls to cross the 1787 Bridge, and the people in the north often don’t want to go down there.
21. Do you have any images or scenes in your mind already?
Yeah, I’m almost done with it, though, so I butchered most of the scenes I was looking forward to writing.
22. What excited you about this story?
It sprouted from a dream many years ago. Me and my brother were in it, and the mentors were Hercules and Kakashi, and my grandma was in it, and a couple of other people were in it who are all characters. I’ve strayed far from it, but it’s cool to finally be writing it and taking it somewhere.
23. Tell us about your usual writing method!
I like to make mini outlines! Because I don’t use an outline, sometimes I get stuck on scenes. So I just list a bunch of places the scene can go, pick the best one, and make an outline! Or I plan every little thing in a chapter if it’s hard to start.

so i uh, i started rewriting and this is what i have so far. i’m actually pretty proud of it. it’s better than the original, i know that
The basement was silent. The air, unmoving. It was empty. Holly looked up from her book and squinted. When had they left? Kusao and Nyles were the only ones who could use their medeis without stirring a breeze. And they hadn’t come back.
So much for a Schlayne Day party.
She took one of the pastries and dipped it in syrup. Holly would never take some if they were around. Hawthorne would make some joke about her trying to awaken her medeis.
She tried it, once. Maybe, she thought, if she learned all about Hanzlet, she’d get the power to travel there. There was a map and a flag still in her room. She still cringed when she saw it.
There was no point in staying downstairs. The real celebration was in Hanzlet.
Upstairs was hot. The air conditioning was broken. A wind blew from downstairs, then chatter. They were back. Holly paused at the steps. They didn’t notice she was gone. Or maybe they didn’t care.
Why did they invite her in the first place? To laugh at her?
The doorbell rang. “Must be my package!” Mom was at the door before Holly could move. She peered behind the door to the basement. She couldn’t see from this angle. There was a car parked halfway on the grass. A man in a robe picked his nose in the driver’s seat.
“At least have some self respect,” she whispered.
“Thank you, but I’m fine,” Mom said. “Really.”
The woman at the door said something to make Mom laugh. Except it couldn’t have been that funny, because it wasn’t her real laugh. She stepped outside and shut the door after her. Holly ran across the living room and peered through the curtains. The driver probably wouldn’t see her, but she wasn’t taking chances.
“Holly!” Hawthorne yelled from downstairs. She sighed. The woman was pointing to the house.
And then they were gone.
Holly blinked.
The car backed into the lawn and over the curb before speeding off.
“Holly!” Hawthorne stomped upstairs. “Faith brought you burrens.” He reached into a basket and shoved the snacks in his mouth. “What?” He said with a full mouth. “Want some?”
She gestured to the window. “Um-”
“Um what?” He threw one at her. He hit the lamp. “So you can’t say I didn’t share.” Hawthorne turned and walked down the stairs. She stared at the spot where he’d been. Then back outside.
They were there a second ago. Then they weren’t.
And there was only one explanation.
WIP INTRO: Medeis (working title)
◄GENRES: Young adult, low fantasy, action
◄WRITING STAGE: Second draft
◄POV: Multiple third person limited
◄SUMMARY:
Medeis. The power to travel between worlds. The power Holly’s brother, Hawthorne, and a handful of other kids from around the world were training to master. The power that should’ve manifested in her years ago.
So when her mother was kidnapped and taken to the other world, there was little she could do to help. But when Alejandra and Sabian, two of her medeis-user friends, came back with the news everyone else had been captured, she joins them to try to save her family and friends.
But they found so much more than that.

Thanks @tirashouldbewriting for tagging me! I can’t wait till I finish this, really.
Or it could be abandoned. Either way, it was too dangerous to do any fighting. If Holly was anywhere, this would be the first place to look.
Unless she was still in the chambers. In which case, she should’ve followed Faith and Geels.

I was tagged by @delerious-wordsmith when I hadn’t written anything. SO here it is:
“It’s funny,” he said. He turned back. Faith was struggling up the slope. Alejandra crossed her arms and watched as she stumbled the rest of the way up. An explosion rocked the Levi building. Smoke filled the air. A wave of officers rushed up the slope. Faith disappeared in the crowd.
Alejandra didn’t see Faith, though. She saw Holly.
