Jeremy Knox knows he lives in a strange little town. From the coffee shop next door that peddles brews and blends to solve every ill, to the tattoo parlor down the street offering half price on protection sigils, nothing about Fox Hollow is normal. Even the residents are odd. Some disappear for a week every month, while others simply never come out during the day at all.
Others still seem strangely omniscient – like his best friends and neighbors, Cat and Laila, whom always seem to know when he's not feeling well or needs a pick-me-up, usually before he's walked through their door.
Even Jeremy's own shop has its quirks (how many bookstores can claim to be haunted, really) but he's learned to like it that way. Fox Hollow, in all its strangeness, has welcomed him in and become his home. The only thing that is still missing from his life is a four-legged friend.
Then one night, while Jeremy is driving home from a party, he spots it. Lying in the middle of the road is a limp, huddled mass of black fur.
It's a dog – or maybe a wolf, Jeremy isn't sure – but it's enormous and alive. Even in the dark Jeremy can tell the poor thing is in terrible shape, painfully thin and clearly too hurt to move. Determined to help and unwilling to abandon a creature in need, Jeremy decides to take it home.

So the best way I can summarize Mother Tongue is Noah falls in love with Reader when he meets her at her families restaurant while on a stop on tour. As they get to know each other, he finds himself loving the small things especially when she speaks in her native language.

Jasper Dox:
Jasper was taken when he was eight years old to serve at Lucious’s palace because his parents couldn’t pay their taxes. Ten years later, Jasper has done his best not to let enslavment break his spirit. He is curious, a chronic daydreamer, and would do anything for those he cares about—even if saving them means siding with the enemy.
Mirilyn Elway:
Mirilyn’s foot was twisted during birth, causing the death of her mother. Now she must walk with a crutch and bear the burden of an abusive father. Mirilyn is prone to anxiety and worry, and processes her feelings by writing stories and poems.
Braids (Kyser) :
Braids is a street thief abaindoned by his gang. He’s cynical, sarcastic, and initially opposed to the prophecy. Braids struggles with self doubt, never feeling worthy to be called king. He often feels unwanted, and simply wants his life to means something.
Emmett Cadeal:
Emmett was taken to serve is Lucious’ palace about the same time Jasper was, so the boys have been friends for years. A gentle giant, he is physically strong, softspoken, often dry of humor, and quiet. He is very amused by Jasper’s antics, but usually discourages his more reckless actions.
Talyia Dalton:
Taylia is the daughter of general Dalton and a doctor in training. Sheis strong willed, calm, and confident, but this can sometimes get in the way of understanding others’ feelings. However, she would do anything to save and protect lives.
Airlie Myers:
Airlie an elderly woman enslaved at Lucious’s palace. She is an irreplaceable source of wisdom for the trio.
Lucious:
Lucious was young when his military regime overthrew the nation. After all these years, Lucious is simply depressed. He feels that rigid control is the only way to protect the masses.
Dagmar:
Dagon is second in command to the king in a neighboring reclusive kingdom. He has combined lightbringing with dark magic to form a powerful and dangerous combination.
Dagson
Dagson is Dagmar’s son and a talented light bringer. He is witty, charismatic, and kind. He struggles with his loyalty as he comes to grips with the darkness of his father’s intentions.
Devin:
Devin is enslaved as a servant in the city of Westgerland. He is cynical and has resigned himself to his position. He desperately wants to fight, but believes it’s hopeless.
And what is lightbringer?….
Lightbringers are those blessed with the ability to look into and touch the light and darkness of the human soul. They are able to find the roots of emotional issues and help the struggling.

Harrison Weber And The Serial Murder Case Of The Theater Troupe (otherwise known as Harrison Weber And The Serial Murder Case On Oxford Street. i'll also make a better name eventually, promise)
in this WIP it is kinda like Sherlock Holmes with a twist. Oliver Briggs is the newest assistant to the big shot detective, Harrison Weber, known for his expertise in solving serial murder cases. Fresh out of college and still trying not to hurl at the sight of blood, Oliver has been assigned to take the lead on a new case so his boss can see what he is made of. There has been a murder in a local park and the victim turns out to be someone Oliver knows, his childhood friend. While trying to grapple with this loss, unexpectedly his old babysitter passes. Then his cousin. As he looks into their deaths he realizes that they are all connected by only three things; himself, the theater troupe his mother had been a part of and a deadly fire that happened 13 years ago. Will Oliver be able to find the killer before they kill again? Or will he have to suffer the loss of yet someone else he holds dear?

but, some updates. i am currently working on fleshing out the characters so that they feel actually human and making a chapter outline. i haven't started to write the first draft yet but plan on doing it soon! i will update more here and on actual posts. i don't really write mystery so we'll see how it goes :D
