A Little Background...
Hello there!
As of 2018, I am 19 years old, and I am nearing almost a full year graduated from high school.
When I was a junior in 2016, I decided I no longer wanted to be a Chiropractor. I realized that I didn’t want to constantly give people back massages because that would getting annoying very quickly. So i started doing some job searching. I wanted something that not only paid some decent money, but was also something I was either passionate about, or something that I could learn to become passionate about. That’s about when I first discovered the world of technology.
Upon doing research within the IT world, I decided this is what I wanted to pursue for a career because the career options were incredibly broad. I quickly discovered that this career path wasn’t as easy as I had originally hoped it would be. Fortunately, I was also taking a finance class that year, and my teacher suggested an internship class that had the opportunity to become something that would look great on a college resume.
I decided to sign up for this class, and we began brainstorming internship positions I could working at. We finally settled on having me work within the school as an assistant to the Computer Technician for two hours everyday for my first semester. We had a great time and got to know each other really well. Finally, the Technician convinced me to sign up for the class during my second semester as well. And of course, by this time, I had not only befriended the Technician, I also befriended many staff members, including my assistant principal, and many other technicians in our district.
As my second semester of my last year in high school started coming to an end, I became a bit panicked. I still hadn’t decided what I wanted to do within the tech industry, and I hadn’t found any schools that seemed like the perfect fit for what I was pursuing.
As the year came to an end, the lead technician in the district offered me a summer position, paid. And as soon as I heard of this, I realized that I wanted to take a year off from school and focus on trying to build up my experience before I attended a University. I graduated, began working over the summer, and began trying to figure out what I wanted to do once this summer job ended. Again, while I was trying to figure out my future career plans, I got a phone call from the Assistant Principal from my high school. He offered me a position as the Media Assistant for our school.
I accepted this new position, and was offered an extra hour as an assistant technician. This extra hour not only helped land me a full time job, it also helped me gain experience in the IT world, and it would give me the opportunity for future growth in this position.
So, a really long, unnecessary background for my blog. Basically my goals for this page are to share with the world my transition from being a high school student to an employee at my high school. A way to share my experiences from this school year, and to show the hilarious stories I hear everyday from my students (of course nothing too revealing, for the sake of privacy). and to use this as a way to help current students understand that they may not need to go to college in order to get a decent job within the field they love.
Again, sorry about the long post, but my background was something I really felt was important to share. Especially as my first post. Thank you, to all those who pent their entire time reading this.
