“What progression is there from your preliminary task to your main one? what have you learned/improved/developed?”

How have I improved my work?
I have improved my work through the use of summative and formative feedback. “Summative feedback” is feedback given/received at the end of something, such as an essay, “formative feedback” is feedback that is given/received throughout something, instead of at the end like summative feedback. By critiquing previous work (such as my preliminary task), I have been able to detect problems with my filming and editing skills-which I can (and have) improved upon for my opening sequence.
For example, in my preliminary task, there were several shaky shots that were not stable-this has been rectified in my opening sequence, as each shot was framed and taken using a proper camera tripod on a flat surface. This makes the shots far less shaky, improving the quality drastically.
As well as this, dialogue, while minimal, was also thought over much more carefully-in my preliminary task, the dialogue was more impromptu and “on a dime”-in my opening sequence, the script was much more relevant and interesting, and is only short as to not stretch out the length of my opening sequence with pointless dialogue.
The camera shots used were more focused and varied than in the preliminary task-in the preliminary task, only match on action and a POV (point of view) shot were used, which is not very varied. In my opening sequence, match on action, cross-cutting, reaction shots and establishing shots were all used to make the scenes more dynamic and varied. This is a big improvement from the preliminary task, where each shot felt significantly more “sterile” and boring.
Sound, both diegetic and non-diegetic, was used and edited much more effectively. In my opening sequence, background noise was edited out and sound effects and music were added to create a better perception of the setting and provide a better, more fitting atmosphere. In the preliminary task, background sounds were prevalent and caused disparity between scenes when the background noise that was quite loud was suddenly incredibly quiet-while this could have been done for effect in a higher-budget production, in my preliminary task it just felt unprofessional and out of place.
