some thoughts about things I've read/watched + what next (1/?)
just wanted to write some thoughts down before I lost them to time, didn't feel particularly drawn to leaving these in my phone notes either so here they go on tumblr
I have spoken before about how I'd like to start a tracking system for the things I've enjoyed (& not-enjoyed, now that I think about it). looking back at my own past systems—which have all largely ended up in failure—I think what I want isn't the fidelity of thought but the fidelity of feeling, which is to say I don't necessarily need to know the what-s & how-s & why-s of a story, just soundbites of what's going through my mind at the moment...
some recent things in my memory:
love bullet vol 1; I liked this quite a bit, I think. there's a lot of questions I have still, which is a given since it's in its inception arc, but overall I thought it was very cute and I liked the action scenes as well...! I like the premise behind it but I'm still uncertain about the emotional direction surrounding it
it's such a beautiful day; I watched this a while back & after recommending it to cala I went back to rewatch this & I think this will always be an animated movie that's very close to my heart. it seems deceptively simple at first, but I find that these stories are the ones that often surprise you most & still stay with you a long time on. the truth distilled...
carmen maria machado's the husband stitch & the lost performance of the high priestess of the temple of horror; now that was such a mouthful but both of these are truly lovely shorts that I adore so much. so full of atmosphere & with some really lovely choice metaphors. both can be found on granta, which is truly the gift that keeps on giving, I think—the fact that they can be so easily accessible with just a flick of a finger...
minari; this was a film I enjoyed quite a bit, though it left me with more unanswered questions than answered ones. I'm a little inspired to dig through books about permaculture + agriculture, particularly in comparing the ozarks with california as producer regions. this was a gorgeous, gorgeous movie though, with some really select shots and amazing colour-grading.
the lego batman movie; rewatched this movie with mir recently along with a few episodes of justice league unlimited, & was reminded of how bright & fun movies could be. now this is not the world's most perfect movie but it's certainly one that matches my own sense of humour, very heavy on the cheese & feel-good family moments, & with a very silly end scene that could really vie with mj's for the title of the most expensive mv ever made, or something, given that the whole movie is really just a backdrop for the song at the end
some things I want to watch/read: marley & me, was just reminded of it today along with conclave (2024); the empusium which has been on my to-read lists for some number of years now; eva luna & the tainted cup, both recommended to me but which I have been most remiss with continuing; ancillary justice; the queen's thief

I'm having an IAN SOMERHALDER media marathon with my closest friend. We have watched TVD, the episode of Lost where Boone (Ian) dies, we just finished watching the Rules of Attraction, and now we are about to watch Pulse. Rock 'n' Roll.
