Based on my earlier post on the creation of Coca-Cola on May 8, 1886, using my alter-ego @siscovanilla, I wanted to shed light on what very well might be the foundation for the today's soft drink which is enjoyed worldwide. The Vin Mariani tonic, which was made up of Bordeaux wine and coca leaves was so popular that many heads of state including Queen Victoria of Great Britain and Ireland and Popes Leo XIII and Saint Pius X gave it their seal of approval. Coca-Cola creator John Stith Pemberton created his own medicinal wine known as Pemberton's French Coca wine which would later become Coca-Cola. How did that happen? Pemberton's medicinal wine had coca infused wine with Kola nuts and Damiana. Alcohol Prohibition in Atlanta in 1886 caused Pemberton to replace the wine with a sugar syrup base and carbonated water.
