I've been reflecting on this one. Of course we should not mix and confuse, but we have to remember that Joachim Meyer is not inventing the art from scratch. Instead, he is at the receiving end of a long tradition, which he has compiled in his treatises. They contain both the culmination of the Lichtenauer tradition and various contemporary systems.

So even though we should not confuse the medieval and renaissance schools, we should be aware of the very real link between them.
