It's the late 1990s in Gusu, and Wei Wuxian is a struggling college student, far away from his family. He takes odd jobs and gigs on the side to pay for his apartment and what little food he can afford. One night, he takes a gig that seems too good to be true. No one is eating the catered food, and there's an odd smell that he can't pin down. When the night goes south and he ends up dead, he wakes up to an entirely new life. Trying to survive the politics of his new life mean challenges he's never faced before. Will he thank his new sire, or kill him?

Lucky you! We have a PDF of that story, but I just found out that the author actually re-uploaded the story to AO3 as well.

Lineage

After he'd had blood, he looked…different. Less sick, less human, sharper. His eyes had a red ring around them, and he was sure they hadn't before. His hair, dark as a raven's wing, shone even in the bad yellow lighting. He looked…beautiful.

Opening his mouth, he examined his teeth. There they were, sharp and monstrous.

Too much, too soon. He had to sleep, stained mattress or not.

Hi! Do you know if the wangxian fics “Monotone”, “medium blues” and “The bunny next door” have any papapa in them? I’m not a person that likes fics with papapa so I always check before reading, and I’m unsure about these although I really want to read them lol.

ETA: @justgot1 says, "Bunny Next Door has sexy scenes in the third and fourth chapters but they’re not graphic and they are skippable. It’s a super sweet fic."

Here it is, y'all. Author has posted 9/? chapters so far, so if you're in a mood to read (or re-read) you can go subscribe to it. Author doesn't appear to have finished tagging and stuff, so if you want more info, you can go to my post for the older story (which has the total word count, etc.)

It is!!!  Oh, I’m so glad that Author decided to leave that with us, I really liked that story.

But also, PLEASE, let me remind all of you to Treat Your Authors Kindly.  They work so very hard.  If you cannot be positive about their efforts, then remain silent and back out.

Writing is HARD.  Not just the crafting of a plot, the development of characters, the various editing passes, the rewrites -- there is also the uncertainty and fear of putting it out there in front of a bunch of judgmental strangers, there is the struggle to find the time and mental spoons to physically write in the middle of your busy life.  There is the whole finish what you started (especially in an epic work such as this), when the first bloom of excitement wears off and then there are chapters and chapters still to go to verbally paint your entire internal movie so that others can see it, too.  The often unrewarding slog of the middle.  That weird thing that makes you just want to stop just before the end.

There are so many obstacles to overcome before a fic appears, tidy and complete on AO3, and the voracious fanfic-reading machine that we are as a collective often loses sight of that, of the individual author and their blood, sweat and tears.

A fic is a gift to the fandom, as is any other creative work.  Please treat it as you would any other gift given to you.  Respect the giver, respect the gift, do not critique unless it is specifically asked of you.

Summary:  Wei Wuxian is down on his luck.

He’s probably the only legit medium in the city of Lotus, able to contact all manner of dearly deceased spirits and gaggles of ghosts. Still, he makes his living off of bunk palm readings and crystal ball tricks, and it’s barely enough to keep him going. Wei Wuxian is broke. And, he’s about to be very down on his luck. A plague of suspicious hauntings brings him to the attention of the Bureau of Investigation, but he has no idea how involved in it he will be until he meets…

Lan Wangji is the youngest detective in the Bureau, with one of the highest closure rates within recent years’ records. He’s sharp and obsessive, which lends well to his work with investigating. The one thing he can’t account for is ghosts, and he’s a constant skeptic when it comes to the question of their presence…that is, until, he meets Wei Wuxian. They’re thrown together by way of crossing paths in an investigation, but after Lan Wangji’s eyes are opened to the fact that his culprit might not be fully of the flesh, he finds Wei Wuxian more indispensable than he ever thought he would.

Everybody needs a good partner.

Ha, this was so timely, since I just (finally!) made a rec post for it yesterday.  I’m so glad it’s back up, it’s a fantastically-crafted horror/casefic that I encourage everyone to read.
