Med school updates: end of trimester
The last few weeks of the trimester have been kind of all over the place. I had a two week internship (only observational, obviously), which was awesome. I spent some time with a few doctors and also learnt about the management of the hospital and the healthcare center. By chance, I saw more babies and young children than people from any other age group, but I liked it. And it was super interesting to see the doctors interacting with the children (even when they were screaming and kicking). I also had the chance to see how home care (correct me if that’s not how it’s said) works.
The reason why it was so stressful is the fact that we had final “tests” (which I guess were almost like exams, but not quite) during the internship weeks, and we also had to write daily about our experiences on a portfolio and i thought it would only take like half an hour but i always spent at least an hour and a half on it.
Overall it went well. I still don’t know the final grade on one of the subjects (I already know I’m going to pass though), but I passed cell biology, so I’m good and i deserve a break from stress please
Now I’m back home. I don’t have exams (!!!), which is not very common on portuguese med schools (I guess the teaching method here hasn’t really been adopted by other universities yet), but it means I’m not nearly as stressed as I was the last two years. On the other hand, I start classes again on the 3rd of january, and I have a test on that week, so it means I still have to study. I’ve been taking it easy and trying not to overdo it tho.
Thoughts on the trimester: it went well! Sure, some days were really stressful, obviously, but I wouldn’t change any of it. I’m still over the moon. bring on the second one
