Okey I have so many thoughts. First of all, thank you so much for sharing your ideas and do not dare to apologize for it. I am thoroughly honored that you liked my AU so much you are willing to send three asks.
I am taking all your suggestions and spinning them around my brain like a carousel.
I like Grace being the son of an airbender, as it allows me to have more freedom with the timeline (I don’t want it to be too close to the beginning of the war) and more fun with the angst! Now imagine, Grace’s parents are found by the Fire Nation. He ran, leaving his parents behind. He was just a kid, but he only felt like a coward.
Now, what happens after that (meeting Eva, getting into a coma, losing his memories) is still a big mess for me and I’m slowly trying to figure it out. Love your idea of him meeting Aang (and Ellie!) in the spirit world tho. Kinda how PMH Grace is certain that life doesn’t need life to exist, ATLA Grace doesn’t think bending can just not have a scientific explanation. It can’t be all spirituality, can it? Funnily enough, he is wrong. Bending is just magic, it doesn’t have a scientific explanation (we can’t all have Midichlorians cof cof Star Wars).
Eva as a White Lotus member is driving me crazy. Aside from gaining and sharing knowledge, they focus on training and taking care of the Avatar, having done so even before Korra (at least according to the wiki). Now, in the context of the war, finding the Avatar seems like the Hail Mary in PHM. However, I do see her as someone who doesn’t let hope blind her. Finding the Avatar would be great, but now she needs to focus on the survival of the Air Nomads and the other nation'‘s refugees. It works especially well because she’s a historian in PHM, so I imagine that she has an interest in the Avatar and their history. Maybe she finds out the only hope to stop the Fire Nation is an eclipse, but the next eclipse is a 100 years in the future. Tragic, but she’s a patient woman, she will make sure the world survives until then (and that dumbass of an airbender as well).
Now, Grace being one of the last of his kind is very tragic to me and I am so glad you see the vision too. Especially because not only do I see him as very gay for Simon, but asexual as well. So my dude has no heterosexual bone in his body to be able to procreate so that his people’s genes and bending make into the future (as an ace person I just think that is deeply terrifying). So like in canon, he has the future of humanity (or a part of it) in his shoulders, but maybe he can be the only one to solve it. Not by suddenly becoming straight, but by studying and learning. In TLOK, airbenders appear once the Spirit Portal is left open. So maybe he finds this out and realizes there’s hope for his people, but he needs the Avatar to do that.
Anyway, THANK YOU SO MUCH @autumn-sweet-fae FOR YOUR ASKS, YOUR IDEAS GIVE ME LIFE!
