Heert & Meert headcanons, primarily for my own reference. This is a living document as in I might update it later as I write more Meert fic.

Heert headcanons:

Heert's first name is Lennart. He is a scion of a cadet house of Brentaal IV nobility, and the second oldest of four. He grew up fabulously rich. His parents expect him to eventually return to Brentaal IV, get a wife and kids, and work for the family business.

Heert built a career in the Imperial government because it allowed him to be financially independent and openly gay. He has a massive persecution complex about it that he refers to whenever someone mentions Imperial atrocities.

Heert lives with his long-term partner Brian (who's gonna spot the TWN:BO easter egg?). Brian is apprehensive both about Heert's job and Heert's weird friendship with his boss.

Heert is not out to his family because they still fund his lifestyle, and occasionally has to recruit a female friend as his girlfriend to allay any doubts. He sees nothing wrong with this.

Meert headcanons:

Heert was two years behind Dedra at the ISB academy. They bonded because their classmates found both of them aloof and offputting. Heert has since left the closet, reckoned with his maladaptive coping mechanisms, found community, and developed a personality, which he sincerely hopes will one day happen for Dedra as well.

Heert and Dedra are very close and it's very toxic. They would take a blaster shot for each other; at the same time, they've both amassed a dossier of unspoken hurts and resentments over the years.

Dedra helped Heert out career-wise many times, including taking him with her to the ISB. Recently he's been feeling like she'll always see him as a little brother first and a capable colleague second. Heert doesn't know how to square it with his love for Dedra and deep gratitude for all she's done for him.

Heert has helped Dedra out financially many times. He also was her exposure to upper-class manners and "good taste". Heert was happy to do it every time and doesn't expect her to pay him back, but Dedra assumes he'll hold it over her one day and resents him for it.

Heert's secretly sabotaged every other Attendant Dedra has had because he's territorial and doesn't want a third wheel in their friendship. He explains it away as none of them being good enough to work for her.

Heert knew that Syril was in love with Dedra even before Syril realized it himself. Dedra is cagey about her sex life, but Heert figured out that they were dating pretty immediately and teased her mercilessly about it. Privately he thinks Karn isn't good enough (there's a theme here), but at least he treats her well?

S2 Dedra thinks he backstabbed her, but that wasn't his intention. He also doesn't blame himself: it wasn't his fault that he got promoted and given Axis, and it's not his problem that she couldn't deal with it.

Cette année encore, le Père Noël aura zappé notre cheminée... Alors, nous sommes allés nous promener et admirer les objets ignorés par les enfants gâtés dans les vitrines de Lille. Curieusement, ces zestes de beauté ni emballés, ni emportés nous ont réconfortés... Nous raffolons des restes du 25 le 31 !
