You know you're in an Ash Brandt novel if:
It feels vaguely like a fairy tale you've heard all your life.
You end up being a very well-spoken person or end up talking to at least one very well-spoken person.
There is commentary about education, religion, society, disability, and anthropocentrism.
Magic exists in some form--even if it's described in scientific terms.
At least one non-human animal as a close friend.
A main character is or will be missing a body part.
There exists a mix of a commonly-known culture with a culture less included in fantasy novels. E.g. fantasy Ireland meets fantasy Estonia.
No lack of descriptions of blood, violence, and gore.
Physical attraction and sexual activity is described in pragmatic and clinical terms. No purple prose here.
At some point, there will be a connection to another Ash Brandt work.
Tagging anyone who wants to do this because I completely forgot about doing it.
