Tracey Emin, My Dead Body - A Trace Of Life, 2024, London
Hey apollo how does mpreg work? 🥺
**asked in that innocent 'how are babies made' voice**
@lothesunwimp
(I'm bored af because im stuck in bed lol)
Anyone else following this woman who was arrested in Georgia, USA for "mishandling a corpse" and "concealment of a dead body" after she was found passed out from bleeding during a 19 week miscarriage? It's all over my tiktok feed and people are so uninformed about pregnancy and miscarriages and it's startling...
There isn't one specific gestational week that's universally considered viability, this idea that 20 weeks is viability so at 19 it was almost a fully formed functioning newborn is insane... there has never even been a baby delivered at 20 weeks gestation that's survived, the absolute youngest eer was at 21 weeks and that's so incredibly rare and only even theoretically possible with the most state of the art medical interventions on Earth. Generally viability is more like 23 or 24 weeks and even then the chances are not good. A miscarriage at 19 weeks is very sad, and it was likely a wanted pregnancy that she considered her baby but that was still very much a fetus.
People are arguing that it was a still born or a corpse and both are just factually incorrect. It was an unfortunate miscarriage and there are no "authorities" to which a miscarriage needs reporting. Often if you present at a hospital during a miscarriage without complications they'll just send you home to pass it more comfortably, and even if they don't, the resulting tissue would just be medical waste.
People are severely misinformed and it' really dangerous, even people who are against the abortion bans are arguing that this woman committed a crime by disposing of the miscarriage, or that she birthed a fully formed infant that was nearly viable. The anti-choice movement does not want us to be properly educated on these matters but we really need to be or shit like this will be easier and easier to do without pushback.
Abortion bans result in women being arrested and charged for having miscarriages. Police have no business being involved in a miscarriage. And frankly the criminalization of abortions, and thus miscarriages, probably contributes to why a lot of women in places with these laws would try to avoid seeking medical care during a miscarriage in the first place.
And one more thing, since people are incorrectly yapping, a miscarriage is medically referred to as a spontaneous abortion. Medically, there is no difference between a spontaneous miscarriage and an elective abortion aside from the latter being intentionally triggered with interventions. Medical care to complete or process an incomplete spontaneous miscarriage Is An Abortion. Even if you don't want to call it such. Medically, that is simply what it is. Words have meaning.

⚠ (Titaya carrying Aria)
Look, I actually managed to reply something! I totally don’t procrastinate. Nope.
“I am fine, Titaya. You can stop fussing over me.” Aria pointed out with a slight scowl, as much as she appreciated the other woman’s concern, she had always hated being coddled. In this time was not the exception to that.
Despite what she said, the fact her limp was more noticeable, that she was already leaning some of her weight on Titaya and the sporadic winces when she took a step, made it clear she was not exactly fine.
“I don’t think you actually know what the definition of fine is, dear.” Titaya added and rolled her eyes. She was used to Aria’s stubbornness, even if she was a bit too stubborn at times. She also knew that ask again would be futile, as Aria would only continue to deny she needed any help. Titaya sighed softly and stopped, simply sweeping Aria of her feet to carry her bridal style.
Aria yelped as Titaya swept her up and struggled so she would let her go, realizing that would not happen at all she gave up and sighed. She looked away to hide the fact she was blushing, in part because she was embarrassed she had to be carried, but also because it was a rather sweet gesture.
“You mind? I can carry myself. Thank you very much.” Aria protested, despite enjoying herself. “You are going to hurt yourself. Or something.” She added, though she did not sound very convinced. She was only protesting for the sake of it, at this point.
“No you can’t. And no, I won’t.” Titaya said with a chuckle and shook her head “Stop pretending dear, I can tell you’re enjoying yourself.” She remarked and gave her a soft kiss on the cheek.
“Don’t look so pleased with yourself.” Aria sighed heavily, but still smiled at the kiss “I am certainly not – Who am I kidding… I am enjoying myself.” She admitted, finally giving up, relaxing in Titaya’s arms.
