OK but split Furret megas. One special, with secondary psychic typing, and the other: Mega-Furret-X (name changeable): HP: 85 Atk: 126 (+50) Defense: 94 (+30)Sp. Atk: 5 (-40)Sp. Def: 95 (+40)Speed: 110 (+20). Ability: Versatility (same as the other). Notable moves: Coil, dynamic punch, elemental punches, iron tail, knock off, shadow claw, sucker punch, the list goes on. This damn thing gets so much coverage!!
It really does, and it just needs the stats to shine. I do like that as an alternative option; it really does sound fantastic. The only thing is...split megas are a thing that bothers me right now. Charizard and Mewtwo are the only ones with a split, and it’s clearly just the bias of general favorites for gen 1. I do really love the idea of split megas and surprises, but...kinda almost in a sense of having two wildly different sets.
I kinda get this from the Touhoumon fangames, but there’s one where you can freely evolve your doll into different types: attack, defense, support, technician. I’m still not sure what the difference between Technician and Support was supposed to be, but that’s kinda how I’d view split megas, where one form should be offensive, and another defensive or support oriented. Basically, have them be very different. And the Zards and Mewtwos are just the opposite offensive stat, which doesn’t really stand out a ton to me? Plus with it being only those two with no indication that there will ever be another split mega line, I’m a little opposed to the idea in general. Honestly, I’m still mad Charizard didn’t get an alolan form, specifically to explain why it got two mega forms. I’m kinda rambling at this point, but short version: I’m totally on board, but if they’re gonna do split megas at all, they better commit long-term and make variants of each.
suitsongirls replied to your post: One of the things I love about mega evolutions is...
Why not give it less defenses, and more into the attack instead, since it has access to both Coil and Dynamic punch?
Because I don’t think can actually learn Coil. Hell, I didn’t know it could learn Dynamicpunch either, but that one’s there. Coil’s not showing up though, so I don’t think it actually has that access.
One of the things I love about mega evolutions is how you can basically subtract amounts from stat totals and go crazy doing whatever you want really. There’s no hard convention in terms of what a mega should be. Sometimes it’s basically just the base form only optimized with better stats. Sometimes it shifts battle role entirely. I think too often, when we go for these mega forms, we think just in terms of enhancing the attributes that are most obvious and running from there. To that end, I wanted to make something that is just a hard deviation from its base form. I think I got a good one.
Mega Furret Normal/Psychic Ability: Versatility - STAB damage reduced to a 30% boost, but also grants 30% boost to all other types of damage. HP: 85 Attack: 26 (-50) Defense: 94 (+30) Sp. Atk: 125 (+60) Sp. Def: 95 (+40) Speed: 110 (+20) Notable moves: Psychic, Psyshock
Have you seen this thing’s special movepool? It’s outrageous. The holy trinity of Flamethrower/Ice Beam/Thunderbolt, Surf, Shadow Ball, Focus Blast... Furret has a ton going on. I’m sure there are those who question why it would be a Psychic type, to which I say no more questions. I just like Psychic types and somehow it felt fitting for what I’ve created here. With Versatility, essentially everything is a STAB bonus, without changing typing. Please note: I would sincerely love if Protean were nerfed to only change typing after the attack so not every move was a 50% STAB bonus. That just always felt excessive to me. So with that particular nerf to Protean being a thing, I think this would be a really solid “everything is technically STAB” ability. Plus it’s a Psychic type with immunity to Ghost! That’s always a plus!
HE'S A DRAGON NOW. No seriously. Mega Charizard X. Fire/Dragon. Only took them 15 years. Thoughts?
I've seen several opinions on this. I have none of them on hand to quote directly, so I'll just paraphrase.
I remember seeing one post (back when Mega Charizard Y was first announced) talking about why making Charizard Fire/Dragon was a bad idea. If I recall, one of the main points made was the elimination of Charizard's ground immunity and dragon type's ice weakness.
And now that Mega Charizard X is announced, I saw a post talking about how they are playing favorites with the mega-evos for the starter pokemon, giving Charizard 2 and Blaziken 1 for example. While there may be some favoritism in play there, I have two things to say about that. 1) I'm sure they're not going to announce EVERY mega evolution before the game comes out. There's a chance we could still see a Mega Sceptile and/or a Mega Swampert, to name a few.
2) Each Charizard mega evo has its strengths and weaknesses. So if you're so inclined, you can pick your version based on the Charizard mega you prefer. If you're in the camp that always wanted a Fire/Dragon Charizard, then buy X! If you're a poke-conservative, then buy Y! I'm sure there will be plenty of ways to get a hold of the opposing version's stone in time.
I for one am a fan of both. More importantly, I'm curious to see who else will get a Mega Evolution in time! (Mega Furret, anyone?)
I wonder if the Therian formes of the Kami trio were a prototype for what we're now getting as Mega Evolutions?
