Hey, it's me, Meg! Comics artist, cartoonist, and illustrator! You can see various examples of my artwork at http://megcoates.com. If you enjoy my work, consider commissioning me! Contact Me @: [email protected] Thank you!
What you posted was important. Being paralyzed by your own mental illness is something that should be fought against if possible, or you risk losing your own life (literally or figuratively). I've had depression for years and it comes and goes in waves... But I've found that staying busy/productive is the best way to amend it for myself. That's not to say that I don't take medication when I need it or have days that I spend in bed trying to recover, but functioning is my top priority.
let me know if I should take this down. Basically I agree with this. I should clarify:- I DO NOT THINK MENTAL ILLNESS IS INHERENTLY ABUSIVE. I think it is like diabetes. If left unmanaged or if ignored, it can BECOME a life debilitating issue. IF YOU CAN FUNCTION JUST FINE WITH MENTAL ILLNESS THEN GOOD FOR YOU? YOU’RE PROBABLY USING GOOD MANAGEMENT SKILLS ALREADY. You should be proud that you are mentally ill and are not letting the illness make you do bad things to other people.- BEING PRODUCTIVE CAN LEAD TO HAPPINESS. Sorry if I sound like a $capitalist scum$ here but having an activity you enjoy: drawing, making music, collecting, cosplaying, whatever - can prevent you from making bad decisions and make you happier. It’s also okay to have days when you are not productive, it’s normal and part of fighting mental illness, but TRYING TO FIND SOMETHING THAT GIVES YOU PLEASURE SHOULD BE AN IMPARATIVE.- the mentally ill as just as responsible as anyone else to avoid being hurting other people. Neurotypical people are also responsible for this, and they are doubley responsible for the protection of the mentally ill. Neurotypical people in general are twice as likely to be abusive to others so I am not absolving them of blame in this discussion. If you are a mentally ill person and you are abusing or taking advantage of another mentally ill person, you are just as bad as a neurotypical person doing the same thing. jUST IN GENERAL: DO NOT BE ABUSIVE. DO NOT MAKE PEOPLE DO THINGS AGAINST THEIR CONSENT. DO NOT BE MANIPULATIVE.NO MATTER WHO YOU ARE OR WHAT YOUR MENTAL HEALTH STATUS IS. ALWAYS GET A CONSENTUAL ANSWER
