“Captain of the Guard of the Citadel, Steven Rogers. Knight of the Order of the Falcon, Samuel Wilson.” The stranger’s voice isn’t overly loud, but somehow still echoes in the quiet courtyard.
“That’s right,” Steve responds. “I take it you’re the one we’re meeting here tonight.”
“That depends. Who sent you here?”
“We’re here under my own orders, searching for something,” Steve says. “But Magista Romanov is the one who said she would send someone to help us. A necromancer.”
With a short nod, the man descends the stone steps until he stands only a few feet away from Steve. He raises gloved hands and lowers the hood of his cloak, revealing unnaturally bright silvery-blue eyes beneath dark hair pulled back into a loose tail that trailed over one shoulder. The bottom half of his face is covered by folds of dark material wound loosely over his nose and around his jaw and throat.
“Romanov said you are looking for a spirit here.” The necromancer looks around, his expression—what Steve can see of it—impassive. “There are a great many. I hope you know who you need.”

Chapter 4: Stolen Away
Summary:
“I asked you before,” Winter’s voice is hard but quiet. “If you knew how a necromancer was made.” “One who dies, but is not dead.” Steve watches Winter, understanding that he’s about to get another piece of the puzzle. Another answer to one of the many questions he has.
“Yes,” Winter says. “You die but are not dead and maybe, maybe you will wake up a necromancer. So, what do you suppose happens if you do it again?”
“If a necromancer…dies again,” Steve repeats. He’s never heard of such a thing, truthfully never even had the thought occur to him. He knows necromancers are not immortal; they can still be killed, still die of age or illness. They cannot resurrect themselves.
Notes:
This chapter also fills square Y-1 "Resurrection" for my 2024 Bucky Barnes Bingo card <3
