ELIZABETH BEAUCHAMP // masquerade attire.
draped in gold embroidered ivory, elizabeth is the very image of purity and richness and yet her entire ensemble contains many contradictions. where her gown lacks in jewels, threads of gold catch the candlelight for an almost heavenly appearance, the detail of which was clearly made with an occasion such as this in mind and certainly was not a last-minute creation. around her neck hangs a pearl crucifix, displaying her devotion to the divine for all to see, whilst the neckline of her gown sits boxed across her chest, sitting slightly lower (due to her fuller chest) than would be expected on a bodice so pure in colour and nature; though not so low that anything is on display, of course, and she remains as poised and reserved as ever. the most striking and obvious contradiction jumps out at any who might look upon her, appearing to do so even more when compared to the paleness of her complexion and gown, elizabeth’s auburn hair falls in heavenly curls upon her shoulders with only half secured up in an elaborate braid upon her crown. it is almost as though she were a phoenix, rising from the plainness usually expected of a young woman living in the shadow of a queen and her older sister, and coming into her own.
