decked out in the fanciest outfit she could make, ridley felt like a million coins and hoped that others could see the same thing. flipping the skirt out, to give herself an air of e l e g a n c e. "what is your intentions with this masquerade? how do you intend to spend your time?" ridley asked, looking her up and down, curious about how others wanted to spend their time. she just wanted all of the attention that she could get.

BIOGRAPHY:
Born in China, Mei Lian’s childhood was much different than that of her fellow resistance members. For starters, being a mutant was always illegal there, and mutants were expected to turn themselves into the government to be put to use in ‘city jobs’ (and to be grateful for it, since it wasn’t prison). So when Mei and her brother both began showing signs of being mutants, their parents did the only thing they could think of: run. Or, well, teleport--the ability Mei’s father had. The Huang family relocated to a small village when Mei was seven and they lived there for three years in a peace. But you can’t run forever, something the family learned one day.
Before disappearing, her father had a government job, so not only had he been tracked down for abandoning his position, but he’d been branded a traitor, a liar, and with the police banging on their door, her father did the only thing he could think to: turn himself in. But not before making sure the family had all of his money and their credentials so they could escape, Mei using her powers to teleport herself with her mother and brother a few blocks away. With nothing but the clothes on their backs too much loose money to walk around safely with, the heartbroken family fled the country. They lived the next eight years in a small town outside of London, an absolute culture shock from all they’d known, but they made it work, adapting and surviving, all while keeping under the radar. Her father’s job had been linguistics with the government, something that fascinated Mei and assisted the family with assimilating into their new lives, since she already knew English (amongst other languages she’d been learning given her excellent memorization skills).
Mei was thirteen the first time she’d learned of the X-Men and Professor Xavier’s school, and from that day on, she was obsessed. She yearned to be around children her age who were mutants too, to not have to suppress this side of her, to not be ashamed of it. She even tried writing to the Professor a few times, but nothing ever came of it. Still, she didn’t let up. She’d spend every day scouring the news for anything on the X-Men and what they were doing, fascinated by them all, and when she turned eighteen and finished school, Mei decided she was done with just reading about them, she wanted to join them. So with her brother at her side and their mother’s blessing, the two relocated to New York
Mei wasted no time in seeking out the school, pleading her case to Professor Xavier, and with her skills in Linguistics, she was hired to tutor students, working her way up over the years to be a teacher, something she happily did for years until 2015 and the Brotherhood’s attack happened and everything slowly started to fall apart. It was like déjà vu all over again as the government began regulating mutants, sending them all into hiding. And this time, she wasn’t going to stand for it. Not again.
Octavian had been a friend of hers during her years working at the school, and when she caught wind of what he was doing with a Resistance group, she wanted in. She argued that her Linguistic skills would come in handy with assisting refugee mutants who came from all backgrounds, and that her powers could be an absolute asset, making it so their resistance members could come and go unseen and unscathed. Her memorization skills were unparalleled as well so Mei took on the mantle of pseudo secretary for the resistance, charting every single mutant’s information, from their names and birthdays, to their powers, blood types, and even food allergies. Sometimes she jokes that she’s the one keeping the whole operation running--and sometimes Octavian even agrees.
