Smiling and rolling her eyes, Nellie folded the sweater over arm. “Waiting for my mother to come get me. She normally works late, but she was so excited that I was starting a new school, she insisted on coming. Even though it’s in walking distance.” She laughed a little at that, her mother could be so child-like sometimes. Although, since it was raining, she was actually quite happy for the ride. “What about you, practice must have been canceled due to the rain.”
Her mother? Even the mention of moms made Rin shiver, and not from his soaked clothes. His own mother was lively and involved, a successful professional, but like all teenage sons Rin tended to be a little embarrassed by how accepting and overbearing she was. The only reason he got to school on his own was because there were innumerable chances to escape between his room and the front door on their huge estate and eventually his mother let it go. “It’s not like the rain would stop us, but yeah, the teachers don’t want us dicking around in the pool while it’s raining. Wet floors and all of that.” He opened his umbrella, scaring several students standing too close.
