Who knew that my first major music discovery of 2017 would turn out to be already wildly successful as a Melbourne export playing sold out shows all over the world? Tash Sultana is a multi-instrumentalist whose music I can only describe as soul rock - calling it ‘alternative rock’ would be to miss out on the tension between the heart-tugging trickery and the genuine sweeps of raw instrumental power. There are simply no words to describe the incredible finger-fluttering taking place over the guitar in this live recording of her just rocking out to a solidly wild original song. This is no amateur at work in a bedroom studio. This is the makings of a young star with supernova potential. And now she is about to surpass the indie ‘viral music’ community into the mainstream with her Notions EP.
But wait - Tash doesn’t just have talent behind her. She has a compelling artist story about how she found her way back to music after drug-induced psychosis paralyzed her.
