I must know the witchcraft! I use Mudbox, but in all honesty, it's a right pain in the pattoo.

Wait...wut?!? You can do this in Photoshop???? Did you find a tutorial anywhere on it?
I found this by error, lol as per most of my modding experience.
First you have to get the nif into obj form so I exported the body nif as an obj using outfit studio.
Then I opened photoshop and opened the obj file. Once loaded if you right click a little menu will come up (if you click the second option it is your material file).
I also turned off catch & cast shadows as it makes it harder to see the main body texture.
Once open you can add your diffuse, spec & normal maps by replacing the default textures.
If you double click on the texture layer in your layer menu, it will open the body texture as a psb file which will show your painting on the flat texture as you work.
I have tiled mine side by side so I can edit both the diffuse in flat & 3d form.
You can now paint on the 3d object like normal and it will show on the flat texture. You can save the psb file as a dds when you are done :)
I made some of my tattoos on the flat texture then made it into a brush so it was easier to apply.
Hope this helps! If not let me know :)
