Hello! I'm sorry to bother i know you're busy and you don't have much time to answer the other messages but! You went to gnomon correct? can you tell me a bit about your experience? or just to be brief if it's worth it and if you liked/loved it or not? i'm very curious since i'm really considering to apply in 2015
Yes, I did go to gnomon! My termination of schooling had nothing to do with the school itself and more of my own personal agenda (health issues, 3D not being my thing, etc). If you are set in your ways to become a 3D Industry-ready artist and illustrator, this is the place for you to go 100% for the best bang for your buck. For the money I did spend to go for a year, it was worth the experience regardless. The very walls inspired me daily, it was a rich and amazing environment... I miss it a lot.
While some teachers are more lenient your first year or so, the 'skill cap' for your progress as an artist and ability to learn is pressured and tested weekly as the terms progress. I highly recommend you have a fluent background in standard perspective and anatomy to make your first year easier. There were students in my term who did not have any of these skills and struggled constantly. If you struggle with the first year, it is a good warning to not proceed further, as the school itself will terminate your stay at it if you can not keep up with their curriculum satisfactory.
And this isn't meant to be intimidating, its just there to warn people who are unsure if this is right for them or if they doubt their skills. If they accept your portfolio, they see promise in you. If you can show them you improve every year and are always showing your very best, you will do well at the school. You also need to be social for the full experience, you may end up working for one of your peers later down the road!
