Unidentified June beetle (Melolonthinae) I found while camping in the Sierras last year. It was rather large, with a body around 1.5 inches (3.8cm) long. It really liked our light and cooperated for a photoshoot.

Yes, definitely a scarab beetle. Maybe one of the June beetles in Melolonthinae, but I’d need better photos to tell you which one as there are many and they all look very similar! Even with more/better photos, I may not be able to narrow it down.
