TODAY'S FACT IS

Did you know that the Forest Cockchafer (Melolontha hippocastani) can be found in forests across northern Eurasia? These cockchafers (that's their name, don't laugh) are drawn to the scents created by damaged leaves, allowing them to follow scents picked up by their antennae, find females of their species and mate. They'll be busy for several hours at a time, so the female will keep eating. She'll then deposit her eggs underground near the roots of the host tree, so her children will have some food to grow up on, too.
