I am going to done my tinfoil hat for a moment: SPOILERS
With how people are saying the haranir bit about 'their goddess has been taken from her cradle' points towards Y'Shaarj, and people before having speculated that with the whole 'Sha of Happiness' and the Darkmoon Faire possibly being powered by Y'shaarj.... That all the 'everyone being all peace and harmony' and complete lotus eater... that there might be a connection and the voices everyone was hearing (radiant song etc) wasn't the world soul at all.
Don't know if I'd trust the writers to go for something like that, but I have plenty of tinfoil to make hats out of.
I mean the Haranir say that the radiant song is the death echoes of their dead goddess and then everyone else is like "yeap its Azeroth" so it really feels like its going to be a "whatever Metzen thinks is coolest" in the end.
As this is the topic right now, can I ask your opinion on how best to handle warnings in the games? For my games (Ballad of Devil's Creek & Hazy Light of Gaslit Stars) I plan on letting the player pick whether to show them (in the stats in the CS version and as separate button in twine) all at once, chapter by chapter or not at all. Thoughts on how to handle this?
the choicescript version of TNP just has a very basic trigger warning list at the start of the game, and honestly i've found that just that pretty much does the trick. but i do think it's a good idea to include it in the stats screen, too. i never did that with TNP because i honestly never looked at the stat screen....
but for twine i intend to have the content warning list always accessible in the sidebar. eventually i'd like to actually adjust it so that it will be labelled chapter by chapter, and implement a toggle for readers to turn on or off if they want to be reminded of the relevant trigger warnings at the start of the chapter.
overall i think the most important thing is just making sure the readers can access the trigger warnings BEFORE they start reading, so at the start of the game, or on itch.io i know some people put it on the game page itself. the prologue i have in twine right now opens on a page that specifies the warnings are in the sidebar. i do think it's nice having it chapter by chapter, just because it's more specific and allows the reader to be more prepared for certain chapters, rather than just having a general list that doesn't necessarily note where these warnings are relevant. some authors put specific warnings directly in the game right before triggering scenes, too, and it's something i'm considering, especially for heavier scenes. and that's something i'll use a toggle for, too, so people can turn it on if they want.
honestly what you've said you have planned sounds good to me. most people don't want anything complicated, they just want to be able to know what they're getting into when starting a game.
Heh, funny seeing someone else asking you for advice on how to get people to read their dbd fics XD I've been pondering if I should do so for days, but figured it'd be either rude to ask, or loves labor lost as I'm writing a deathslinger centric fic, and you know how the fandom's with him. In any case, thanks to the anon and you for the answer, and keep up the good work.
Well I’m glad it worked out! I actually have no idea how the fandom at large feels towards or treats Deathslinger and the vaguely grim implications in that sentence are terrifying. It wouldn’t be rude though! And I’m happy someone did so you could get some answers too. Sorry it’s not much of an easy step plan answer. :’-]
Welcome To the New Realm Cowpokes (pt 2) || The Deathslinger + Micah Bell + Dutch van der Linde Headcanons
FO: So we've been informed that the newest Tumblr update may have caused issues with Chrome users sending us asks. I would like to apologize to anyone who's been having any problems doing so. It might be our theme, but we are honestly unsure of what the problem is.
@meltingpenguins : “Reading that crossover got me curious: How would ending up at Dead Dawg go for Dutch or Micah?"
I opted to write HCs instead of a fic because I figure the situation would be similar to Arthur's. It felt like this would be a better than writing a whole fic for Dutch and Micah each. I hope you enjoy what we came up with~! ^w^
Dutch and Micah meet The Deathslinger // Red Dead Redemption 2/Dead by Daylight Crossover HCs
Dutch van der Linde
Like with Arthur's visit, Caleb's first instinct is to hunt down and the intruder and either send them away or shoot them.
Little did he know his urge to shoot on sight would be so much stronger with Dutch.
Just the mere appearance of the one gang leader would send Caleb into quite the fit of rage. Dutch's style is quite similar to the wealthy Henry Bayshore who once used Caleb and stole his inventions.
As Dutch is exploring to learn more about the realm that lured him in with it's old Western charm he will encounter a close call with Caleb's harpoon, his only warning being the sound of gunfire. However, he manages to narrowly dodge the barbed spear.
Caleb will approach as he reels in his harpoon, readying to aim and shoot once more.
Dutch will attempt to use that "silver tongue" of his to get himself out of this mess.
"Come on now. Can't we just talk this out like gentlemen?" Dutch will ask in a slightly defensive tone.
Sadly, Caleb's rage is too far gone.
Dutch has two options at this point. Leave now, or get shot.
Dutch being Dutch, he will continue to attempt to reason with Caleb.
And Dutch being Dutch, he will have to run out of Glenvale with Caleb hot on his heels ready to shoot when given the opportunity.
Micah Bell
Micah doesn't like to stick around the other survivors. Mostly because several of them annoy him. So he spends his time off trial wondering the trails of the Entity's world.
Like the others, he is drawn into Glenvale by its comforting familiarity.
So he easily stumbles upon Dead Dawg in search of a drink.
When Caleb notices him rummaging about the saloon he grows irritated and concerned that the other might be searching for something to steal.
So he wastes no time and approaching and aiming at Micah.
Caleb will start off by giving Micah the chance to get the hell out like he did with Arthur, but when Micah turns and Caleb spots his guns he will quickly cock and aim his rifle.
"Woah now big fella." Micah will say in a slightly shaky tone as he raises his hands defensively.
"You another killer?" Caleb demands as he points the spear toward Micah's hips in reference to his guns.
Micah will deny the accusation, pulling one of his guns from its holster and aiming to the side.
He cocks it and pulls the trigger to show it isn't loaded. The Entity had been kind enough to leave him with his most prized possessions but had removed the bullets to render him helpless.
Micah insists he was only here because it reminded him of home, and he hoped to find some whisky or bourbon.
Caleb will lower his weapon and retrieve a bottle of whisky for Micah. He hands it to him and demands he leave and not come back.
Micah will take the bottle with a chuckle as he assures Caleb he will stay away, but this is Micah we're talking about. We all know he will be back for more at some point and likely get his killing done.
Curious on your thoughts on how book!crowley would interact with tv!hastur i mean, they are much more alike, lbr
oh dang you’re right, they /are/ similar! i think that while Book Crowley is intimidated by Book Hastur because he’s fierce and job oriented, he’d be intimidated by TV Hastur because of their shared manic energy. Crowley wouldn’t be sure if and when TV Hastur might attempt to make him explode or cause bodily harm hahah
