[Key who overflows with competitive power] During the interview, Key kept using the word "competitive power". He has gotten used to attention and is enjoying it. Key's competitive power that is different from the others is definitely this. He shows himself as he is and is unafraid of being talked about. Key knows how important it is for artists to be a continuous topic. It might be that what we see in him is not just the lovely color of his hair.

Q: This year will be your 8th year since debut. Are you closer to your ideal image of an artist?

Key: I'm really thankful that even more than what I thought before I debuted, I feel like I've favorably gone farther. Even more than what I imagined, I'm able to do more varied, enjoyable works. That's why I look forward to whatever path I can extend to from now on. It's been my dream since I was very young, but it is fortunate that this time I'm/we're able to meet our fans from around the world.

Q: You had a successful 2-day concert in Tokyo Dome. Key, you cried quite a lot.

Key: I think that a concert means that both the artists and the audience have to emphathize with each other adequately no matter where it is held. It's useless if we're the only ones who felt great. We were able to perform in Tokyo Dome earlier than we expected, and we are very thankful to everyone, and since we did our utmost best, we felt satisfaction that was in proportion with that effort.

Q: We watched SHINee's progress with 「Sherlock」, 「Dream Girl」, 「Everybody」, etc., and instead of being a group that first walks on level ground, then climb a mountain a little, then go up a hill again, it seems like every time, you are climbing Baekdu Mountain continuously. That is why your new album 「Odd」 is facing high expectation.

Key: Every time we're about to release a new album, we worry about what kind of competitive power we should have balanced. For 「Sherlock」, all three elements--music, performance, and theme--came together with a unique character and that was our competitive power then. It's something that other groups cannot do, something that only we are able to boast about. In 「Everybody」, the strong point was showing a powerful and energetic performance, I think. As for 「Odd」, I think we've decided that its competitive power is its ability to draw out a relaxed image. At this point in time, I think that an image wherein we exert all our might, as if attacking, to the point of exhaustion is not a novel/fresh idea. We want to break out of the expectation that we'd release another song just like that (the previous songs). We'd draw out our strength and refine it, and use it to further let our respective individualities manifest.

Q: With the exceptions of what you wear in public events and airports, do you normally dress stylishly? Do you see someone who does not dress up as neglectful?

Key: I'm not entirely like this. There are also days when I go out without dressing up stylishly. Conversely, if I dress up fashionably to the fullest, the atmosphere for that day will change, too. I'm not concerned about being seen by people around, and if I want to eat out comfortably then I'll do so. If I'm greeted or spoken to, I'll definitely respond. When I'm awfully tired, I usually wear a jersey to go out in the neighborhood for a short while.

Q: Key seems to be the type who will not wear training pants with knees showing, though.

Key: I've worn such. Although I wouldn't think of using it as a(n official) costume/clothing. It seems like when we record a practice video I'm always wearing the same clothes every time.

Q: There are some who say that dressing up is to compensate for certain complexes. Do you also think the same?

Key: I think so, too. When we debuted, I didn't have the opportunity to show a strong individuality. As time went by, though, I had a lot of chances to show my own style, so I was able to show my character a bit more. It's rather mediocre, but I think it's better to be different and noticed.

Q: You wouldn't have any remorse even if you're somehow called the worst dresser? Something like, being compared and told "same clothes, different feel"?

Key: I don't really mind. I wouldn't dress up weirdly for the purpose of gathering such attention, but if I get that kind of attention then that's fine, too. Of course, not everyone will have the same opinion when talking about what I wear. Even so, having my own styled clothes picked up by the media is, in itself, a good thing for a celebrity. In order to find my own competitive power, I'm exerting a lot of effort, so I'm concentrating on my (own) fashion. Since I do not have a celebrity's tall stature, a sim figure, and a proportioned face, (investing on my style) is more advantageous (LOL).

Q: Please tell us your thoughts about starting as an MC for a music show.

Key: As a singer, I think it is a great chance to be able to understand weekly music shows' advancing trend. Since I cannot witness everything every day, while working (as an MC), I'm able to study a lot.

Q: When you started as an MC, you said such refreshing words, "I'm happy to be able to work here as a regular."

Key: I've been looking for a project wherein I'll be able to show my strong points for a long time. Right now, I'm moving forward in a programme that I've liked since the start, so at the beginning I immediately had the feeling that I fit in.

Q: We heard that you buy all the magazines you had a photoshoot in. Will you also buy Celebrity's June issue? (LOL)

Key: I have the issues of The Celebrity from the first issue. At the start, I even have my own corner, right? Even if I'm not able to buy the magazine, my mother will definitely buy and then send it to me.

From trip preparation to tips you can use when flying long hours, delicious in-flight meals and beautiful scenery of Paris! Business trip to Paris with Key.

I went to Paris last week! I am going to show you the process of my overseas business trip. I thought many of you would know about it but still feel curious. Haha.

it’s this child! gem miracle black pearl o2 bubble mask (the name is too long!) it helps the complexion a lot through exfoliation, it is effective in removing waste. it is not an irritating product, it’s very mild and i use it pretty often.

[StarCast] Interview with ToHeart, ’Everyone is curious about 'ToHeart’, right?… Woo-hyunXKey, Unit Talk’, March 2014

’SHINee’ and ‘INFINITE’. It is rather unfamiliar combination. There is something in common as they are both idol groups but the style of the music that these two groups pursue is definitely different. If ‘SHINee’ is unique, then ‘INFINITE’ has a powerful feel. Within that, a different kind of unit is born. It is a group ‘Toheart’ in which Key and Woo-hyun work together.

Key and Woo-hyun, Woo-hyun and Key are best friends who are the same age born in 1991. They even formed a unit. ‘Toheart’ means two hearts. It contains the meaning that they will convey their music sentiment and truth to the fans. It is a team name that is made for continuous activities instead of being a short term project group.

The first song that these two people present together is ‘Delicious’. It is a funky pop genre and is a song that is produced by the composers ‘Sweetune’ and ‘Sean Alexander’ working together. Sweetune is a hit composer who made songs such as INFINITE’s ‘Man in Love’ and ‘The Chaser’ and so on. ‘Sean Alexander’ is a skilled person who made TVXQ!’s ‘You’re My Melody’ and SHINee ‘Amigo’ and so on.

The goal is plain and simple. Woo-hyun and Key said “We made a unit with a friend. We focus on showing music capabilities” and added “There are things that we did not get to show in each of our groups. We want to show another kind of charm through this activity” and conveyed.

On March 10th, Woo-hyun and Key met. After finishing ‘Toheart’s first showcase, they made a separate time. They have gathered to convey the behind story of the birth of ‘Delicious’ to ‘NAVER STARCAST’ readers. Also, they talked about the things that are not well-known such as the reason ‘Toheart’ came into being and the episode of working on the song and so on.

Key:

It was when I was radio DJ for a day. You were a rookie who made debut as ‘INFINITE’. Back then, the prize of the quiz was to give away my phone number. You got the question right…. We became best friends since then. I always thought about wanting to do something together. Something like shooting a pictorial. But, I never knew that we would form a group.

Woo-hyun:

That is right, it was merely an imagination at first. You remember the day in which we ate together with the CEO, right? He talked about lots of good things after meeting you. We talked about wanting to do something together back then. He understood our opinions right away and said to wait a little more. Things got bigger in this way. (Laugh)

Woo-hyun:

The preparation time alone took almost a year, right? It seems like it took a lot of time as we were putting a lot of efforts in terms of music. Listening to the sample of the title song and starting to choose the concept is already last summer.

Key:

Yes that is right. You were on a world tour and I had solo activities such as musical and so on. So I purposely planned long enough time but it took almost a year to complete the album. Even when I was busy, I did not want to give up the quality of the album. I think that is why I worked on it much longer. Since it is the unit presented for the first time, I had lots of hopes toward well-made.

Woo-hyun:

How did you feel when preparing for 'Toheart' album? For me, I felt like I went beyond my limit. I think it became an opportunity to sing in various styles. It had positive effects. How about you?

Key:

If I were to define in one word, I think it is positive unbalance. I guess I can say the members from different teams gathered and formed a good combination. They look like they are not going to match but actually match well kind of a thing. I was thinking whether we will match when I listened to the sample song…. But when we sang it, it happened to match well. Our vocal styles are really different. But there were songs that somehow match well and I think it is listed in this album properly.

Key:

When I worked together with you, you looked different. I never gave this kind of compliment but I discovered that your understanding towards music is high. For me, there are often times when I miss small parts. But for you, you knew good and bad about your voice so I think you record perfectly even when the recording time is not that long.

Woo-hyun:

The truth is, I prepared several versions before recording. I also tried adding little bit of changes to skills or ad libs. I use the best one out of all that. However, I was instead jealous of you. You match with all genres. Especially, I was surprised in the rap part. I saw you rap when you were holding activities as a member of SHINee, but I never knew that you were this good at rap. You have ability to make the rap that fits the song and also pull it off.

Key:

We worked with really various composers this time. I did not want to limit myself to genres. I wanted to add various songs. So I requested to recommend as many songs as possible, was it ok?

Woo-hyun:

We worked on the song with really lots of staff members. We really listened to lots of sample songs. The fact is, it is just the beginning of ‘Toheart’. There is no definite color so I discussed a lot about what kind of music we want to do and what kind of genre. I made a choice after listening to lots of songs and I am satisfied.

Woo-hyun:

Since we are talking about the album, I focused mostly on making the similar feeling while emphasizing our individualities. In terms of outfit, it is like both of us wearing suits but with different patterns.

Key:

You are right. We focused on the harmony of the two. There was rarely singing in harmony in the song. Out parts are clearly divided. We focused on overall harmony. I think we did not try that much to combine the two so that we can still be harmonious while emphasizing different individualities.

Key:

That reminds me, we cannot proceed without talking about the title song ‘Delicious’. Please introduce the song.

Woo-hyun:

It is a song that expressed the charm of us two most well. The story is about two guys fighting for a woman. It came to me right away as soon as I listened to the sample. I really liked it. The lyrics are happy and I could draw out what kind of performance to show. It gave me a feeling that it will result in a good concept and choreography.

Woo-hyun:

Did you also like ‘Delicious’ as the title song?

Key:

I thought about choosing another song instead of ‘Delicious’. However, the associates around me recommended ‘Delicious’ a lot. When I kept listening to it, I could understand the reason why. It felt like this song is the one you and I can enjoy. For that reason, I claimed that we should go with this song. We usually like funky music. I liked it since ‘Delicious’ matched well with pop and funk.

Key:

Other than ‘Delicious’, is there a song you like in this album? I like the 4th track ‘You’re My Lady’. I felt like it is a song that cannot be pulled off if it was not ‘Toheart’. I felt affection towards it the moment I heard it the first time.

Woo-hyun:

I think you like a little bit sexy song? (Laugh) I like 6th track ‘Departure’. It is remake song of the song by ‘Some Day’. I think my sentiment is from 1980~1990. I really like the songs of this time. I like music that is comfortable and the one that I can relax while listening. Oh, I also recommend 5th track ‘Tell Me Why’. I think it was good because it is sentimental and our vocal styles are shown well.

Woo-hyun:

There are total 6 songs listed in the album, right? Starting with the intro, number 2 ‘Delicious’, number 3 ‘Maze’, number 4 ‘You’re My Lady’, number 5 ‘Tell Me Why’ and number 6 ‘Departure’. Please tell me what they mean.

Key:

1, 2, 3 tracks were replying to the expectations of the fans. A joyous and cheerful music is usually contained. I honestly did not have a feeling of burden at first. I put more meaning to working together with a friend. But since lots of people showed interest because it is the combination of ‘SHINee’ and ‘INFINITE’, I felt that the thing is getting bigger. The burden also got bigger that way. Now, I am very nervous but at the same time, I am also highly looking forward.

Woo-hyun:

Last but not least, should I talk about the goal of ‘Toheart’ promotion activity? My goal is to do music with a friend. To look at it on a bigger frame, my hope is to make it possible the continuous release of ‘Toheart’ album from now on to the future and the fact that I am doing music with you alone is a happy thing and I think it will become an unforgettable memory.

There is something that I always thought about while making this album. Instead of the song itself, I was hoping that the fact we come out as this kind of unit becomes much more widely known.
