MONSOON SEASON IS IN FULL SWING, and while the cliffs that shielded their village from the buffeting winds kept damage to a minimum, the rest could not be said for most of the island. The sea had surged overnight, sweeping into the shallowest parts of Kamuna Cape and bringing in with them a host of flotsam. From small fish to the occasional unlucky Lagiacrus, the beach became littered with a variety of different materials and bodies.
. . . It only made sense then, that they be cleaned up and the damage be surveyed. Mari had taken to the island's southern end, where some of the rubble had been washed up along a gently curving sand bank. Ratha was in tow, lingering close to dissuade any small monsters from harrassing them.
A lone velociprey is picking at the wreck of a large boat. It lifts its head up and shrieks at the sight of the adolescent Rathalos. As Mari steps up to examine the wreck, the monster flees, leaving behind it the comatose frame of something . . . no, someone, that it had been nipping at.
"Oh, Sapphire Star . . ." Mari murmured through a breath.
It was a girl. Roughly her age, or maybe a little younger. Her body lay unconscious, but alive, amidst the wreck and the driftwood that littered the sand bank. It would take some picking through and navigating, but eventually Mari would find her way to her, and pull her from the wreck to lay down amidst the warm sand.
She looked relatively unscathed . . . but there was no telling if she had taken in a lot of water before she'd shown up here.
