❀ Share a headcanon you have not shared.

Well, it depends on when you’ve started to see me RP. A year ago I revealed my headcanon that Artorias is quite literally Guts from Berserk because of how he was clearly ripped from the series and placed into the game of Dark Souls, so anything that Artorias isn’t, I place in as Guts’ traits. Aside from being a lone wolf, I think that Artorias is very tightly knit with his companions, and in many fanart, he gets together very well with the other 3 knights of Gwyn and Sif the Great Grey Wolf.  Which I believe is his case, canon or not.

☯ Is your muse liked or disliked by fandom? Does this affect your portrayal?

As far as my knowledge goes of Artorias, he is one of the most well beloved bosses of Dark Souls because of his backstory and his relationship with Sif the Great Grey Wolf, another boss in the series.

As affecting my portrayal, it’s actually part as to why I got interested in Artorias in the first place. I never really made it far in the Dark Souls 1 game and it tortured me since I had no humanity, but my friends raved about two particular bosses. One being Sif, and the other Artorias. When I learned about the two and their relationship, it was touching and really sad. I even got slightly depressed because of it. As I learned more about Artorias from both the game and the fandom, it really got me to enjoy him as a boss and a character as a whole. (Just listen to those voice clips, hoo damn).

As a whole, I’d say Artorias has the most depth to him in the series, though that’s just a personal thought, I suppose.

✦ Has your own interpretation changed from when you first began playing the character?

Well, slightly, to be honest. The first initial way that I was portraying Artorias was a person that spoke the every day language, which I guess played in part as to why I lost the energy to roleplay as him. It didn’t feel right and it just.. stopped because I didn’t feel like I was doing a very good job. I came back into the character recently because of the new release of Dark Souls 3, which kickstarted my interest in the series again as the “Abysswalkers” appear as enemies in the game and go into more depth as to what they did. (Artorias’ blade comes back into the series, though I don’t know if his armor does too)

Aside from that, not really. Artorias still isn’t used to current-day society and will question everyone about everything because he’s clueless but quick to learn.

☯ Do they believe for every darkness there is a lightness? If not, why?

Indeed, Artorias believes that for every bit of light, there is dark. Though through the power of Lord Gwyn he was shown that with the stronger the light, they could banish the dark. At least, that is what most are taught to know. As Artorias learns; the bigger the light, the larger the shadow that dwells beyond. With Lord Gwyn came Manus, Father of the Abyss

✖ : Describe a way to make them uneasy or apprehensive.

An easy way to get Artorias apprehensive or uneasy, is to essentially tell him that he did indeed fail in his mission to banish Manus. Not only did he fail, but he also became consumed by the Abyss, only to be killed later by an undead.

⊗  - What is something that causes them to question themself?

Artorias often wonders if what he did was right; to go off and push back the realms of the ever-spreading abyss. He also questions if it was even right in the first place to be sent, along with his best friend-pet Sif the Great Grey Wolf, by himself instead of the whole of the 4 Great Knights of Gwyn. Now that he’s in the Hive, he often begins to question if Gwyn was right to do what he did, and believes that he may have failed in his quest.

☤ - Is there anything about their health that they are continuously on edge about? Something they disregard?

In terms of health, Artorias is concerned about his state of armor. It’s worn, damaged, and older than the last time he’s seen it personally. It concerns him that his voice is rockish, coarse and seemingly broken. It shows that he hasn’t used his voice in a long time, but to him it seems like it was only just a few days ago since he entered the abyss to face Manus.

In terms of disregarding… Artorias is unaware that his left arm was broken during his fight with Manus, as that portion of his memories are lost to him.  Though this isn’t technically disregarding on his part, it is something that is very important, as he is a left-handed warrior and is often shown to be a right-handed one. In truth he’s stronger with his left hand, and is still shown to be strong when fighting with his right.

♋ What drew you to this muse?

The moment I saw Artorias in a gameplay video I thought to myself “This is the coolest guy I have ever seen.” After some time passed, as knowledge of him grew on the internet, I decided to look up all the information uncovered on him. After all, he’s a boss character. In dark souls no less. Meaning that it wasn’t particularly easy to get information that quickly.

After reading the information that was uncovered on him I couldn’t help but feel for the guy. A knight, sent out by his kingdom in order to save a princess and defeat the darkness. Cliche right? Well, yeah for the most part. Problem is he was sent with 2 other friends, Royal Blade Ciaran and Hawk Eye Gough. Ciaran is believed to be Artorias’ lover while Gough is actually blind.

The problem arises when Artorias enters the Abyss and encounters Manus, Father of the Abyss. The legends say that Artorias defeated this creature, but in actuality.. He lost. Painfully so. A broken arm and the will over his consciousness. He was still alive however, but only being used as a pawn of the Abyss. Fortunately, Artorias still had an indomitable will. The task set upon him to protect Oolacile was still in his mind, which was the only thing that had remained. Which is why the player will encounter him as a boss when entering Oolacile. When defeated, the original audio for him was supposed to be “Forgive me my friends, for I have availed you nothing.” However they (the developers) decided that his mind would be too lost for it, so they took it out.

All in all, dark souls is depressingly dark in story, and I love it. Artorias is my favorite.

I would say that since he is in citta and no where near the Abyss/Oolacile. Yes.

If he was still near the Abyss/Oolacile… Hahahaha No.
