No Metal Plate AU
Okay so it got me thinking. According to the Journal Ford got his metal plate put in by the Oracle in dimension 52. Okay so say Ford never met her and never got the plate put in. What would happen?
0kay for starters, Dipper would have erasered... something (I don’t even know what! What was specifically spelled out on the control panel?) Bill Cipher, probably? From Ford’s head. Sure it would have most likely come back to Ford since images and stuff like that trigger memories to show back up. But, can you imagine what Bill could have done during that time??? Not to mention he’s told absolutely no one about his history with Bill and how much he’s a threat!
Theory 2. So apparently Bill couldn’t possess Ford or even find him within the multiverse despite their “until the end of time” deal. (Of course it could be argued Bill could have found Ford at any time and just didn’t because Ford needed to be alive to be found by Stan. So Stan would open the portal and just did the whole bounty thing for giggles.) But in coming through the portal and Bill straight out possessing him the moment he sleeps? I don’t even want to think of the consequences on that one! (Brings ya more paranoid Ford, though, unless he uses his machine right away to encrypt his thoughts. Does that even work against possession? What was the point of that machine again?)
Then there’s the finale. We all know how badly Ford wants to be the hero. Who’s to say he doesn’t just force the memory gun in Stan’s hands and tells him to use it. Would Stan do it or even be able to? Would Stan refuse and fight Ford on this? What about the kids? Could the stan-twins even pull it off? (Honestly I kind of imagine Stan refusing and using something to knock Ford out. Change clothes and then during the deal using that second of consciousness to pull the trigger on himself or even while unconscious he manages to feel the gun in his hand through focus and then say ‘bye bye Bill’)
