[As you make your way through the station to get back to your studies, you spot Omirron coming out of a corridor. But he’s not in his usual space suit. It looks like formal or ceremonial Stelashien wear, if you’ve got your Stelashien culture study right. You flag him down with a wave.]
[Omirron]: “Ah, Miss Diallo!” starts the alien, flashing a quick smile - though he seems a bit flustered. He smooths his hands down the front of his tunic. “You’re looking well. Just popping down for some lunch, I take it?”
Yeah, actually. School sucks. What are you wearing?
⮞ Oh, no, I was actually just taking a look around the station. You look nice.
Boomer said the oatmeal is made with real meal worms.
[Omirron]: He twitters, lyrical voice made distant by the cage of his rebreather. “Please, never mind the outfit. I barely ever bring it out these days, but I owe my mother a call and she likes to see me in it.”
Moms have a tendency of doing that, don’t they?
Does your mom have bad taste too?
⮞ Well, I think it looks good. It suits you. -don’t let me keep you, though.
[Omirron]: “Not to worry, Miss Diallo, really. -- in fact, would you like to meet her?”
Meet... your mom.
Meet your... mom?
⮞ Meet your mom?!
[Omirron]: He chuckles, again with a voice like a song, a dream. If as fables say a colony of exiled Stelashien are truly the origin of siren folklore, it isn’t any wonder that so many drowned in the depths at their hands. “Yes, yes. Come along, she’d be delighted to meet you. The only humans we see on Stelas are tourists, anyway.” Omirron is bustling off again, fussing his gloved hands over his bald head and fixing hair he doesn’t have.
Oh no, really Omirron, I couldn’t impose...
Are you sure? What if she thinks I’m just another tourist?
⮞ [hurry along after him] What’s she like?
[Omirron]: “My mother? She works as the curator of the museum in my home colony. She especially loves human art. I suppose that’s where I got my love for it, too.” He leads you down to the class A quarters, granting you temporary clearance. There are four rooms. Emerson and Ty have bunks and Charlie doesn’t sleep, which means these rooms must house, aside from Omirron himself, Katya, Sitanna and the CO. Omirron’s room opens with another key card, immediately dark. “Sorry it’s so dim - I get enough of blinding lights down in the lab.”
⮞ I can relate. Really, don’t worry about it.
Can I turn on a light? I can’t see a thing.
I think the monitor lights probably do the trick.
[Omirron]: He gestures to the chair at his desk for you to sit, so you sink down into it. It’s a few taps at the keyboard before another Stelashien appears on the main screen. It’s the first time you’ve ever seen one without a rebreather or helmet of some kind, but she’s visibly underwater, as she would be on their home planet. She and Omirron share a greeting in Stelashien before he introduces you.
⮞ Mrs. Sechentas, it’s such a pleasure to meet you. Your son has been a wonderful host. I won’t take up too much of your time, but do you have any Omirron stories to share?
[Omirron]: The man groans, though clearly good-naturedly as his mother chuckles. “Oh, plenty,” she croons with a matronly smile. “How much time have you got, dear?”
