After getting hammered in first ODI inspite of scoring 360, WI looked to get better in 2nd ODI. England chose to chase again after winning the toss. WI started well as they openers Gayle and Campbell had 50 plus stand before Campbell was dismissed for 23. WI 61-1. Gayle hit 5 sixes before being dismissed for 50. From 98-1, WI were reduced to 121-3. Hetmyer then took the attack to England bowlers. He hit 83 ball 104 to take WI to 289. Score looked good but 20 runs short. WI reduced England to 10-2. Cottrell grabbed both the wickets. He is also part of Jamaican defense force.  His celebration of a sergeant like which was great to watch. Roy just made 2. Root and Morgan took England past 50 before Root was dismissed by Thomas. England 60-3. Stokes and Morgan played with ease post that. Morgan was dismissed by Cottrell for a well made 70. England 159-4. Butler and Stokes had another 50 run stand. Just when it looked like England will cruise to another victory, Holder and Cottrell changed the course of the match. Holder reduced England to 233-7 from 228-4. Holder dropped a sitter of Rashid . Rashid and Ali took England past 250. Holder brought Cottrell back. He didn’t disappoint. He dismissed Rashid and Ali in space of 3 deliveries. It was his maiden 5 fer in ODI. England were dismissed for 263. They lost last 6 wickets for 35 runs. It was quite a comeback for WI. England have a strong batting lineup but if Roy and Root fail, it puts lots of pressure on middle order which showed today.

Lanka needed 137 runs to become first Asian team to win test series in SA. SA needed 8 wickets to draw the series. Mendis and Fernando batted with utter ease. They scored bunch of boundaries in first 30 minutes to take score past 100. Fernando was lucky as he tried slogging Maharaj but ball fell in vacant space. Post that they were on a roll. They won the match by 8 wickets. Mendis was unbeaten at 84 and Fernando made 75. It was historic series win for Lanka. They had struggled all over the world in last 2 years. This should come as refreshing piece of news for Lankan cricket fans. 2019 has been remarkable. India won in Australia, Lanka in SA and WI beat fancied England in test series.  It would be too early to say if this is change of guard. But it is great to see teams like WI and Lanka back in rhythm.

In La Liga, Barca faced Sevilla. Navas gave Sevilla the lead in 22nd minute. Messi showed his old form as he gave Barca the equalizer 4 minutes back.  Barca still though lacked the spark. Suarez looked out of sorts. Defense looked brittle as well. Sevilla took advantage of that to take the elad just before the break. Barca played better in 2nd half but goal eluded them. Barca looked at Messi and he didn’t disappoint. He scored 2 goals in 18 minutes to give Barca not only the equalizer but the lead. This was Messi’s 50th hatrick for Barca.  Messi assisted Suarez in another goal as Barca won 4-2. In EPL, Burnley shocked Spurs 2-1.
