Over the past few weeks, the Mendocino Complex fire has broken the record for California's largest wildfire ever, burning over an area the size of Los Angeles. With the fire surpassing a previous record set in 2017, the trend in California and elsewhere is clear: Climate change is making forest fires more intense and longer-lasting. Since the state began recording fires a century ago, 15 of the top 20 strongest fires have come after 2000. Go here to see more photos from he Mendocino Complex fire that show its terrifying scale.

#Repost @ibew_1245 ・・・ The devastating #Carrfire continues to rage through Shasta county, and hundreds of #IBEW1245 members are on the scene in Redding this week to begin the demanding and arduous restoration process. Preliminary reports indicate approximately 800 transmission and distribution damage locations, and thousands of customers without power. PG&E has dispatched dozens of Local 1245 crews to the Redding area, and the city of Santa Clara is also sending a 10-person mutual aid team of Local 1245 members to assist the City of Redding Electric Utility. #IBEW 1245 business reps and union staffers are on site in Redding for the duration of the event to support members and address any issues that may arise. The union is aware of at least one Local 1245 member who lost their home to the Carr fire, and dozens of others who have been evacuated and displaced by these and the other active fires that are tearing through the state.
