Last semester, I started going to university and it's very small, so everyone immediately knew me as "the new girl". But everyone was very nice and tried to make me feel included so I made friends fast. One day, I had an hour before my next class as did one of my classmates, so he asked if I wanted to grab food with him, so we grabbed something. I thought it'd be nice to get to know someone else and make another friend. We started talking about like where I used to live and my junior college and whatnot. Then the topic of where I currently live came up, and the convo went as such:

Him "So do you live on campus?"

Me "Oh no I live in an apartment in *nearest town over*."

Him "How do you like it?"

Me " Oh it's great, it took us forever to find a nice apartment."

Him "Oh you've got a roomate?"

Me "Oh ha sort of, I'm married. *shows him my wedding band*"

Him "Oh, ok."

And it was an awkward lunch after that. And he's never tried to hang out with me ever since. Whenever we talk, he seems irritated with me. It couldn't have just been a coincidence right? Idk it just kind of hurt my feelings; I thought I was going to make a friend, but I guess he just wanted to date me or whatever.

Unpopular open letter to sexism men

Dear men that think all women belong in the kitchen, Why don’t you go to school and get a job so that you can afford to have your wife be a homemaker and stay at home mother? Why is it that so many of you are working piss poor jobs? Maybe you’d be less angry and bitter if you made more? So many men that have talked to me this way are uneducated and unappealing to women that want to stay at home. Sincerely, a happy homemaker

Today is the best day of the year, and today we can show our appreciation for the women around the world. And also why does International Men’s Day has too exist men have only destroyed the world that they were given. And we should shun the men for their actions. And we need to kill all men.

In my native Somalia, girls are married off to old men as young as 10, women have extremely high rates of death during pregnancy, violence against women by men is the 4th highest in the world and while women have the right to ‘justice’ in cases of rape and abuse 99% goes unpunished since men are the only ones allowed to determine who is guilty.

Women are also blamed for being victims of rape, reporting it is taboo and the women is left to feel shame. During the 1991 civil war men from opposing armies would gang rape Somali women in acts of revenge, and to take their ‘honour’ away. Still today there are zero resources to educate men not to rape women, as society feels it’s a ‘women’s issue’ and she, the lesser being, can just be left to bear the consequences of the almighty man’s actions.

But please, kid in my psych class, go on about how you, a White Australian Middle Class Male, are so oppressed by the targeted admission schemes in place at the university that allowed 4 Black women to be preferentially enrolled in a class of 600. Please continue to stand up in our lecture, taking away the class time we’re all paying for, and loudly complain how we need a ‘targeted male admission scheme’ to get more of you people into Business degrees. You are right, people like me really don’t understand true oppression! True inequality! You are right, life is so easy for refugees! We get handed everything! And yes, this world really needs more rich white male CEOs, the only thing that makes sense is a targeted admission scheme so you make up 100% of the cohort rather than 99%.
