Free women.
I saw a feminism take on tiktok that was so bioessentialist it baffled me that people actually think of it like that. right energy I guess, but we are in fact trying to get away from ideas like "men are inherently like this because they can't give birth and create life, so men will never be as empathetic as women are and that's why they start wars"
Racist men talking about some "pattern recognition" the MILLISECOND you bring up male vs female crime and abuse stats (or even just women talking about their lived experience vs men bragging about treating women poorly): 😡😡😡😡😡😡😡😡😡😡😡😡😡😡😡😡
I will become disgustingly educated
“I think society is often uneasy with young women who present both their sexuality and intellect. In one respect I am happy to have the ability to shine a positive light on our sexual freedom, but most female celebrities who are considered sex symbols aren’t thought of as strong individuals intellectually. Men like Matt Damon and George Clooney are thought of as both. I would like to see that shift.” - Sasha Grey
This is one of the struggles we women face when we accept our sexuality in all its facets and nuances, and our right to make it something active, not sinful to hide. As if that weren't hard enough, with our parents and the entire Jesus Christ fan club pressuring us, we also face the fact that openly sexual women seem to be of lesser value, or less trustworthy as an 'investment.'
In a few days I'll be posting this article by @paleprayercard (there's a schedule of posts for when I'm offline and a calendar), but I can't resist highlighting it and giving you access right now
Guys, this isn't prudence in the sense of "be careful with that skirt and fishnet stockings, there are perverts in this pub," it's sexism that's been digested and normalized (and no one who is sexist or racist admits it; they always say there are reasons and facts for their different treatment). Having to choose between being seen as intelligent, competent, and autonomous, or as desirable, passionate beings is part of conservatism, but there are feminists who also have similar problems with the practices of power imbalance… consensual and ritualized in private.
Oh, I wish certain friends of mine, activists who are stuck in the anti-porn and almost anti-kink era of the 80s in the US, could read this. Europe, on the other hand, was taking a different path with its feminism, and now in Spain, having imported it from the new wave in the US, it's so… prudish.
2hollis & the future men
do men just not care about women anymore?
last night at the 2hollis concert in silver spring i witnessed first hand the depravity of male youth culture. men have and will always seek out violence that is no surprise. the surprise came from the complete disregard for life outside their bubble.
elbows to the face, pushing, groping, kneeing, punching.
the men in the audience were full on body checking young women so they could get a video for their silly little instagram story. who is this for? why does it even matter?
there was a moment right before jeans played, i looked to the guy next to me with a genuine terror in my voice and tears pooling in my eyes and i asked if it was alright if i could hold on to him when things got crazy.
he looked over at me in utter disgust and shook his head pushing me away.
in that split second when i registered that look of malice on his face, it felt like i was transported back to highschool.
i'm not really sure what i am trying to articulate here other than i am deeply afraid for the woman of my generation and younger who will have to deal with the blunt of the violence.
