I'm on the Nuva ring and my doctor told me I can use it for 3 months straight but lately I've been shedding uterine tissue as well as randomly having breakouts where my v swells up and itches This past time it's been itching very badly and now I have these sore red spots on the sides as if all my pubes were coming out of small red spots I'm scared it might be herpes but I also think it could be a yeast infection or BV and don't know how to tell the difference
It can be hard to tell the difference, even for medical providers, without a proper test.
However this could indicate a possible allergic or foul reaction to either the ring or the conditions under which you are inserting or wearing it. It’s important for you to discuss this reaction to your healthcare provider.
It’s also possible it could be an issue of hygiene - if you are using soap, douches, sprays, and other “feminine hygiene” products, that could be the cause of this issue. Taking frequent hot baths especially with soap, bath bombs, and similar additives can also cause this problem.
Either way, you’ll need a diagnosis to confirm what it is, and then to receive treatment. Any time you have abnormal symptoms seemingly out of no where is a good time to call up your provider if you can. However there are home testing kits for yeast infections that you could purchase to either rule out yeast infection or know whether you can do this yourself with an over the counter treatment.
Finally, bleeding and discharge, including of uterine lining, is very common for birth control, because it messes with your hormones. This means you can get period symptoms up to and including irregular periods or period-like bleeding. This is especially common during your first year on birth control.
