Menu 2 from Super Smash Bros. Melee
Good day all and welcome to another edition of VGM Mondays! Today’s song is Menu 2 from Super Smash Bros. Melee. This is the alternate menu theme and I believe it plays starting after all characters are unlocked. This is also my way of paying my respects to Mr. Satoru Iwata who passed away recently. May he rest in peace.
Out of all the menu themes in the Smash series this is my favorite, hands down. There’s just something about the medley and combination of sounds that make me feel like there’s something to look forward to. I can feel the anticipation of the next battle but this song makes it seem more like fun or a tournament though I guess considering the game is of the fighting genre, thinking of it as a virtual tournament is pretty apt. For lack of a better term, this theme is “fresh” to me. I guess because every time I hear it I feel inspired to try harder in the game!
This song also reminds me of how this was one of the games that really made me feel like a gamer. Fighting on, not letting anything stand in my way. My brother played more of the event matches but for me it was just about enjoying the experience in a way that I could have fun and those hours were not wasted since I loved every moment I played this game. Also, Peach and Ness were and still are my faves!
