FDA's Final Rule for Restaurant Menu Labeling
Menu labeling is an issue that is near and dear to my heart--it was one of the first issues that I really dug into as an aspiring FDA/advertising lawyer.
The Affordable Care Act included provisions requiring restaurants to present calorie information on menuboards--the first mandated labeling for unpackaged restaurant products, apart from a very narrow requirement that applied when restaurants made voluntary nutrient content claims. FDA issued the final rule on December 1, 2014. This is a big deal for restaurants, although they've been anticipating it for some time. (In fact, restaurants ended up supporting the federal requirement because it preempts the patchwork of state requirements that were popping up.)
I'll post to this page about some of the intricacies of the rule--the reasonable basis standard, who is covered, etc., but in the meantime here is FDA's overview page, and here is the link to the final rule.
